This is a beautiful poem of faith. I like how you draw the reader in and build upon your theme then the wonderful declaration in stanza four:

I do believe that freedom's bought
with blood, a cross, a thorn.
absolved am I from guilt and shame;
my peace from chaos torn.

And the summation in stanza five:

Now freedom's just another word,
unless it's bought not won.
One must surrender life for death,
as Jesus Christ has done.

Great poetry about freedom. Freedom can only really part of you when you when you believe and let God handle your worries and take care of you and your soul. Very beautiful spiritual poem.

Hi Roy,

These pieces are always presented so well. You do have a knack for marrying an image to your words, or perhaps sometimes it is vice versa?

Strong and powerful imagery here to go along with a similar message.

Great work.

Wow! This is a very well written post, my friend. I do remember Janis Joplin's song, even though it came out way back when I was a young man. I enjoyed your message and understand what it means. I also enjoyed the scriptures you listed to go with the poem. It had wonderful rhyming and flowed evenly down the page. It was a pleasure to read this dedication to Jesus, our Lord. Thank you for sharing it, my friend.

Always with respect,

Another beautifully written poem. This flows so well. I agree with you about the line from Janis Joplin song; attached to freedom is always a price and some have paid the ultimate price. Jesus also paid the ultimate price for us.

Roy my friend, enjoyed the write...easy to grasp with wonderful flow/cadence in excellent rhymes and as always I admire your deep conviction in faith. Only in death can one find freedom from this illusory world.

Thank you for this nice poem. I think you have given the readers so much to think about here, and also in your author notes. I have one suggestion... I would punctuate this verse as follows:

I do believe that freedom's bought
with blood, a cross, a thorn.
Absolved am I from guilt and shame;
my peace from chaos torn.

The last stanza might also be broken into three sentences...
It seems like three to me.

Now freedom's just another word,
unless it's bought not won.
One must surrender life for death.
It's surely what Christ's done.

(or you could simply change the wording a little in the last two lines, and perhaps avoid the contraction "Christ's") Example: "One must surrender life for death, as Jesus Christ has done."

If you are like me, you will edit your poems, seeing slight changes you want to make, after posting, so I'm sure you don't really need any suggestions from me. I just think this is so great and could be neatened up a tiny bit, but it is your call of course. Just know I loved it, and that's the only reason I even take the time to make suggestions.

Hi, Roy...

_ This is so beautifully composed, my friend.
_ I agrees with you about the Freedom line from Janis' and Kris' song. Some families have everything to lose in the name of 'freedom.'
_ So much wonderful about this work. This stanza really stands out to me.

I do believe that freedom's bought
with blood, a cross, a thorn,
absolved am I from guilt and shame,
my peace from chaos torn.

Cheers & Blessings
Keep Smilin'... Jackie (*:*)
