He endured so much pain for us...the controversial subject of religion is possibly a never ending one. Thanks for an inspirational read

A poem of great intensity. You describe a bonding sealed in blood, one which we renew each week at the altar steps. Your description of the Passion of Christ is both immediate and real.

No need to abbreviate 'cruelty', Roy, as it naturally has two syllables.

Excellent expression Jesus' bravery, and that he died for us.

Have a great weekend, Ray

    Fair comment, Roy.

I thought you Aussies were mostly economically fun with your pronunciations. Love some of your slang words too.

    Have a great weekend, Ray

Roy; Thank you so much for your authors notes they are very helpful not just been reading your poem but as an uplifting and inspirational and enlightening type of vigil to my awakenings. Your poem is written very beautifully, sad, but beautiful. The rhyming is neither forced nor stressed it helpful in your rhythmic flow. The rhythm's tempo, meter, cadence and timing all were helpful in making the reading clear, easy and fluid. He came: "to rescue our hearts to find/To Him I'm bound from fetters free/In Jesus' blood His Father's creed/our union sealed, God guaranteed." So inspirational and enlightening, this final verse brought my back to the shiver And reminded me of all the teachings that I have learned from being at altar boy. Thank you so much for sharing and posting and may the good Lord be with you always Roy.

Hi Roy,

I suspect the Mel Gibson version of the Passion is a little OTT, but, that said, it was brutal period, and the same brutality is never very far from the surface of our nature even now. Most people today seem to miss the link between Abraham's being told to sacrifice his only son, the 'sin' offerings to be made in the Temple, the prophecy in Isaiah 53 and the death of Jesus, the ultimate 'sacrifice' for sin. One really has to study the history of the peoples and lands of the Old Testament, and the what the 'worshipped' and how they 'worshipped' to understand a lot of the Pentateuch, and the books following.

This is a very good 'hymn' however, and I hope your congregation will make use of it.

Patrick

I get from scripture that Christ was worse even than Gibson depicted him, the cat o nine tails had small stones wound into the whips, so it literally tore the the flesh of His body, they ripped out His beard from His face! Thanks though for the great review. Patrick, blessings, Roy.
