What a beautiful sonnet this is, Nancy. Through your excellent rhyme and meter, you tell the often-familiar story of the woman who has lost her love to the call of the sea. She is, in essence, competing with nature, I guess.
As always, a pleasure to read your poetry.
Hugs,
Connie

Oh, Nancy......
What a lovely and heart-renderng story about the love of a man for the sea.
The imagery ad rhymes were great.
I guess the sea has been a rival to lovers since time began.... it seems to offer the freedom and love no human person can give it.
Thank you for sharing it.... NanL))

I wonder why it is the sea calls some, the mountains, others? The sea calls me, the mountains, my husband. We compromise...live in the middle where no ones happy, ha ha. I love your sonnet Miss Nancy. Reminds me of that old song by 'Looking Glass', that I just love, 'Brandy.' Blessings...

I'm never disappointed in your poems. This one really hit home. I married a sailor. Well, married a sailor and a sailboat. Wow, I've so often felt those very same emotions. I really love this one, Nancy. As always, a beautiful piece.
Warm Regards,
Janet

Hello Nancy, this poem leaves the reader with the feeling of ahh. I especially liked:
I pray some day the sea will loose her charms,
and he will find safe harbor in my arms.
(Amen. I pray for that too.)
A poem beautifully penned from the heart. Silky rhyming. Good complementary artwork choice. A pleasure to read. Keep the blue waters flowing ... unless it is the sea - lol. LateBloomer

This personification of the sea as a rival in love makes a fine topic for a sonnet. To some extent what you have written must be true of many sailors' wives. They endure much loneliness. Your sonnet is skilfully constructed and a pleasure to read.

It has to be hard on the wives. Thanks for the review Tony. Have a lovely day. Nancy

Lovely poem. The subject a bit sad, but written beautifully. The sailor's partner first and foremost, the sea.
I can't comment on the iambic pentameter, as it's beyond my abilities, unfortunately, but the format of lines and rhymes appears correct! Though I'll leave that up to the experts. :)
Small typo here, "lose" rather than "loose":
"I pray some day the sea will loose her charms,"
Well done. Enjoyed.

This was excellent Nancy, coming from a sea faring family I can relate to a lot of your words.
A lovely flow throughout with some wonderful lines particularly the last two which completed the Sonnet beautifully.
Have a lovely evening
