Charming and witty the way you wove the heirloom flowers into the fabric of your verses. The names are all very interesting. Well done.

Brooke...

This was simply wonderful.

I've never heard of these flowers but they certainly made a terrific and whimsical poem about love and marriage.

Thanks for using your creativity and sharing it with us.

I love the wonderful names of all these heirloom flowers, Brooke, and I love your poem. You used excellent meter and rhyme, making the poem smooth and easy to read. (The word "sherbet" is misspelled.)

Thanks, Sally - it is the spelling the flower site used - it appears to be a common misspelling from googling it - I suppose I should fix it even if the flower people spell it this way. LOL Thanks also for the great review :-) Brooke

Goody, more flowers. From your notes, I also learned about "heirloom flowers." You have combined these fanciful names into a thoroughly satisfying poem, laced together with lovely rhyme. But the last lines that are not flowers' names, are equally glorious. This poem represents one of your more creative inventions.

Brooke,

This is a delightful poem, and without any nits that I could find. I had no idea there were so many fanciful names for flowers, but my favorite is the first one you use - it sounds very romantic.

This is a beautiful poem, I have never heard of a kiss me over the garden gate flowers before, it is such a nice thought. The poem is fantastic.

Brooke, you could have chosen hundreds of themes for these great flower-words, but you, you poetic miracle worker you, wedded them together in a poem about a wedding! Freakin' BRILLIANT! Not only that, forget the flower-words, this is a very touching poem.

The last stanza made me a little sad thinking of all those who embark on this journey, only to have it fail. I love "pledge your troth" because I often wonder if a marriage going through difficulty could be recovered if only the couple would think of the pledges they made to each other, and work it out. I suppose it's easy for me to say that, and perhaps a little insensitive, because I've never had to "fall back" on the promises I made to Ellie... although come to think of it, it's possible she might have. :)

Oh, and guess what, my 30-day moratorium on Brooke-sixers had passed!

John, thank you so much for your generosity and for such truly encouraging and wonderful comments. You could give me a swollen ego! LOL I know what you mean - I divorced my husband after 13 years but only after exhausting every other possibility over a long long period of time and reflection - too many couples today give up on a marriage without so much as a second thought. Those pledges should mean something. Brooke :-)

What a wonderful website to find. Sometimes my research on the web does indeed surprise me for the good. Usually it is not the case. But, never give up trying. Your poetry was quite lovely.

This is a delightful poem. Immediately recognized most of the flowers (I guess being old does come in handy sometimes). Beautifully written and also very clever. I like this one a lot. As always, very nice work!
