I don't think it really matters what kind of tree was used to build the cross. I've never heard this story before, but I love it. The explanation for the different attributes of the dogwood tree is wonderful. As usual, your form and rythmn were lyrical, the rhymes natural and well done. A really beautiful poem full of deep meaning and intense emotion. Outstanding job.

One of the lovely things about legends is that we don't have to fact check them. LOL Thanks so much for your most thoughtful comments. Brooke

This is inspired stuff! Nothing wrong with a little poetic license to get your message across. I just recently became familiar with the legend of the dogwood tree and find it fascinating. The personification of the tree came through without a hitch, the rhythm and flow were superb, and the images were spectacular. You are the Queen of quatrains!

Hullo Adewpearl ....

This is a beautiful legend encompassed in your well-written poem and enhanced by what you have written in your Notes at the end.
It is a story which I have not heard before. Thank you for sharing this with us. There is nothing to suggest changing.
With love from .... Nanette Mary.

I never heard this beautiful story before. You made it into a wonderful cinquain. The imagery in your poem is painful but inspiratonally satisfying. This is an excellent offering to Christ and a great reminder to His followers. Bless you.

Brooke, I have never heard of the legend of the dogwood. Once again, I have learned more than just wisdom from one of your poems. You are a well-rounded, well-educated and well-read poet.

I love the poem, especially the last stanza (classic stanza). I love the alliteration as well.

Brooke, reading your poetic version of the Easter Dogwood legend was the perfect way to start my morning today. I enjoyed it immensely. Smooth flowing verse with a wise message delivered in precise words and with apt and well chosen images, rhymed and metered perfectly--what more could one ask of a poem!

Very nicely done. I especially like your last stanza. So true.

Brooke -- This is a simply majestic poem about religious beliefs without screaming about it. It is this subtlety that encourages me to listen, and I did. There is a gentle strength in your words and a great power to your ideas. Your message at the end shows that you truly grasp the Christian message. Thanks for taking me with you to church this Sunday morning. Were you in the pulpit, I would go more often. Excellent work, Brooke. D

Thank you so much for that lovely comment as I have been religious all my life but have always been turned off by the screaming religious faction. LOL It is wonderful that you got the vibe I intended from this poem. Brooke :-)
