I loved it. The best part was the fact that their fates were so varied. Not every one was a happy ending nor was each one sad. My favorite was number eight, where the grain of sand got to sit on a castle and see the world from higher than one inch off the ground for the first time. I never thought about the life of a grain of sand before. This was quite a different perspective.
Great poem, great rhyme and rhythm. Wonderfully vivid descriptions.

Brooke, your countdown is fun and engaging. It speaks of how loneliness is resolve if we are patient and open to going to a new place. Well done. :0 GracieAnn

Brooke,
Tactful alliteration's("sparkly sands"2x's)("sands so small")("beach balls bounce")("burying a boy"), resourceful inventive and creative imagination, excellent descriptive and expressive imagery(" Two grains were worried that their lives were getting kind of drab, till one walked off with no goodbyes, his new best friend, a crab.") Superb rhyming (neither forced nor labored), outstanding picture that represents the poem and exceptional rhythm that smoothly flows throughout the writing. These are some of the traits and qualities that I found within your writing.
An excellent piece of poetry that helps with the mathematical learning of a child's addition. Very well formulated and an excellent composition.
Thank you for sharing and posting and may the good Lord be with you always Brooke.

A very pleasant, feel good poem. I really like the counting aspect of the post which really zipped me right through. Of course always enjoy a chance to share Sawyer! Bill

Brooke, this was such a beautuful verse. These grains of sand become alnost human. I felt so bad for the last one that was left all alone, and rejoiced when a wave brought him new friends.

Lovely picture of Sawyer having a ball with his sand castle.

One of my favorite verses is about four grains that renained below "where toes trod on their heads." lol.

In some ways this poem shows the passage of time. It's constant as the waves and a child's scoop is. Very entertaining. Nice rhyming. Was wondering how the last grain would go. I should've known. There's never just one wave. Superb! Les

I liked you started this counter with twelve, Brooke, because it gave me two more wonderful verses to read and enjoy. You give such great exits for each grain of sand, and I love the ending when he gets a wavedul of new friends.
Smiles,
Karyn :-)

Karyn, I originally posted it late last night with Ten but then two more, the beach balls and the gull, came to me, so this morning I changed it to twelve LOL :-) Thanks so much, my friend :-) Brooke

Just love your counting songs. Have read quite a few of them, but this one really stood out for me. Just loved this. 10 little grains of sand. All but one disappeared...then a lapping wave swept new grains toward his home. Superb. Children will love this. Genya

So charming. You are teaching kids to count. These are memorable stories of what happens to each grain of sand. Each has a different and interesting history. Clever idea of the one grain of sand becoming best friends with a crab. Excellent humor, and the rhyme and flow are irresistible. Great for reading aloud. judi

what a precious poem about 12 grains of sparkling sand and how delightful a gently lapping wave
