nice little poem you have Brooke,
You never know, and never will
if you should close your eyes
to all the possibilities
that dwell in sweet surprise.

Sometimes, we lose sight of the possibilities of something extraordinary, simply because it happened when we weren't expecting it. It takes a special eye to see those things and enjoy them. An excellent message in your poem, Brooke - and something that would be good in that motivational book I keep harping about.
As always - a flawless rhythm and beautiful flow.
Rose.

What a fabulous philosophy written in poetic voice. Sage advise as well. My very favorite stanza is the one about rocks becoming stepping stones. Reminds me of an Alan Jackson song of which of course I can't remember the title. If I do, I'll come back to amend this. But for now, I really, enjoyed this. Loren

The song by Alan Jackson (country western) is called "Remember When" It is in a word, magical. My wife and I once danced to it as we were building our outdoor arena and barn. It was playing on the radio. Hope you can find it and find as much joy in it as we did. Loren

Your poem is very sweet and opens the door to a world of dreams of endless surprise met by the wonderful smile of a little boy named Sawyer.

Hi Brooke - Another good poem from you in your good 8/6/8/6 form. I particularly like your penultimate stanza - meaning a bit like a 'blessing in disguise'. And of course your last stanza is a very good finale. Has Sawyer lost his box LOL. Kind regards Dorothy x

Lovely one, Brooke. I love surprises, as I am sure most of us do, so long as they are nice ones. I take it Sawyer does too. Or does he like making the surprises? He looks a bit unsure in this photo, LOL. xsx sandra

This is a poem that just about everyone should be able to relate to. I liked the lightness of the spirit of it and the way it reads so smoothly down the page. You are the true spirit of what a poet is. This was an outstanding piece of poetic art to have read and written this response for... John

Hello adewpearl, The essence of happiness is written in this poem. To those who will not see, they will see, and to those whose hearts remain shut, they will be shut forevermore. I especially liked:

You never know, and never will
if you should close your eyes
to all the possibilities
that dwell in sweet surprise.

(As the saying goes, "nothing ventured, nothing gained ... and to reach the stepping stone, a person actually has to step, either lightly and forcefully, but step they must.)

Another goodie with a message worth living by. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer
