Delightful! I love clever ways of educating... As you said, you researched your facts and wrote an adorable verse about a very odd bird, and followed the contest rules, while doing so. I really enjoyed your poem and the picture was the icing on the cake.

never read a whitney before. cool. and great job with it.
for sharing your creativity and humor with us in this delightful poem. elephant bird, what a concept. love it. interesting to say the least and I like the heightened diction rhymes as well, as opposed to box and fox and socks once again. keep em coming.

It is sweet and precious.
Utterly adoreable.
Reminds of what Steve Irwin tried to teach people.
Have to get to Queensland and visit his zoo.
He made me become a Wildlife warrior and taught me a respect for Nature.
Thanks for this !

Thank you.
I can remember vividly the day when the shocking news of Steve Irwin's death came through. I was working in Cairns at the time, so it was a big local story.
What a man he was.

I don't blame the kiwi for stopping flying. Blimey, I just tried to take off and run out of puff after ten arm-flaps. :-)
The female in the pic must have an extraordinarily large birth canal - and that can't be much fun for hubby, unless he's EXTREMELY well-endowed. ;-)
Great fun light and entertaining read, Steve.
Cheers, Ted

Thanks, Ted.
Perhaps the picture is a slight exaggeration.... I think the kiwi egg is approximately one third the size of the adult bird - still an impressive feat.

That's a relief for the hen, Steve.
Coincidentally, my belly is 'one third' the size of my body, so I must have a long incubation (or whatever the word is) period of about 25 years. :-)
