Good well worded poem. Nice flow and imagery. For me the very nice artwork detracts from the piece in that it makes it difficult to concentrate on the words used

Ho. Ho. And a bottle of rum. Pass me the bottle, you lazy bum. Hoist the sail, crawl high in the nest, come now mates give it your best. Great work done my artist friend. No doubt you put some time in this one. Makes me smell the freshness of the sea.

From the picture, I thought this was going to be akin to Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner. Pirates, Valhalla ( Led Zepellin's Immigrant Song), cavorting with dolphin' s- at first I was confused as to the tone, but since I always read the author notes, gradually drifted and bobbed on the waves enough to understand that this is an ode to imagination, a voyage on the sea how each different reader perceives imagination. Sterling use of rhythm and rhyme and excellent presentation.

I Loved this. I have never been out to see in my life and yet the worlds waters have such a pull on my heart. I can read this piece, close my eyes and I am there, out in the middle of an ocean, taking in slowly the scent of the salty sea air, then the boson giving me a clip behind he ear for day dreaming, boys will be boys. Seriously though, your piece had a good flow, like the waters themselves. The pictures you painted on your empty canvas were easily transferred into my mind. This one I could read over and over. Lead on my friend, to the heart of the sea....MIKE.

Nicely written and welcome back! The sea has always been connected with imagination and promise, and this poem is no different. From every word speaking of adventure to be had and the glorious picture, even to the color scheme, this piece speaks of the lure of the depths of both water and creativity. Wonderful job, my friend.

Thanks very much, TJ, and while I'm not back at 100% just yet, I'm getting there, which is more than I could claim a week ago, heh heh...

    Thanks so much again...

Great voyage out to sea there Billy. Not much imagination needed here though cause I've been at sea, on the high seas, adrift on the mighty waves to sleep.
Your poem definitely sparked alot of memories of being out at sea. Great story told in easy reading lines that flow with the rhymes.

good job

I live a mile from the Atlantic Ocean and I can tell you I hear stories of wrecks, rescues, discoveries and pirates all the time. It doesn't take much to get me thinking about how life on the sea would be. I loved the poem and the sense of imagination you brought to your words. Nice imagery and emotion. -

Thanks so much, GW. We, too, lived less than a few minutes from the ocean while I was working at the Naval Shipyards in Norfolk, VA. I loved going there after work, just grabbing a lawn chair and taking in the sights. It's one of my fondest memories, and I miss it!

A journey doesn't have to be physical reality and as writers we prove it every day. We traveled and help people embark in wonderful adventures. Great poem.

You're certainly right about that, my friend, it doesn't. Reading (and writing, in most cases) can take us places we've never dreamed of...

And what a journey you have taken this reader on my friend. Making connections between what is seen and its importance to the brain involves many synaptic connections...you got all of mine firing for sure.
thank you

You really put so much work into your poems, that it always look more like a work of art than a poem. But it is well written and beautifully presented. Thank you very sharing.
