Ha, what a fun poem this is, Bill. I really enjoyed the circularity of your poem and how what started out to be time of leisure ended up being a lot more work than planned for, so back to work you go.

Excellent social commentary, and a fun read today.

Gloria

    Hello Gloria,

Thank you for your review, I appreciate it.

I basically wrote this poem in anticipation that it could possibly be of some benefit to those men that are considering retirement in the near future. I have been retired for many years.

I read that a large percentage of divorces happen shortly after the man retires due to many different factors. It's a sad situation.

    Thanks again...Bill

Ha! This is a very cute satire poem about the woeful side of retirement! Pretty sad when you're happier at work! LoL!

Thanks for sharing!!

    Hello Diana,

Thanks for your comments, I appreciate it. It is as you said and from what I have read and seen in my community there are "many" that are happier at work. And, many of those that do take early retirement end in divorce within 2 years according to what the experts say.

    Take care Diana...Bill

This is so true. Most of the time now-a-days the woman has two jobs, although it IS getting better. I see it with my kids. Husbands are more willing to help around the house. Carrying our own weight in a relationship sure does smooth ruffled feathers. Have fun in your retirement and give the lady a helping hand. Marilyn

Bill, I dearly loved the Storyline of this poem, because frankly, I am getting ready to retire at the end of this year.
Your poem, for me, was sometimes hard to read because the rhythm was pretty choppy. The rhymes were good and I didn't think they sounded forced. But I truly think, with a little work, it could be a masterpiece.
Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for your great review and I agree with you completely.

It is choppy in a few stanzas. I knew that going in but I just couldn't pull the words out. I have changed it a little since your review.

Actually, I wrote this one for fun. I retired 19 years ago from Fort Knox. I built a woodworking shop in my backyard one year before I retired and I have spent many hours there in the past years especially during the winter months. That shop has probably saved my marriage of 53 years. It allows both of us to have some "alone time."

I wish you the best of luck in your retirement. However, please remember those two words above "alone time." LOL...Take care and God bless you...Bill

Amen brother! My wife retired a few months before me and we were both sick and tired of the grind. My job was relatively easy and stress free, but after some fifty years of working, even the easist job was too much, or so I thought. We carefully planned things out so that we could handle the financial part of things, then the grand children fell on hard times and decided that living with grandma and grand pa was a pretty good idea. I am just about ready to rejoin the work force.

    Hello Nomi,

Thank you my friend for your wonderful review and rating, I appreciate it very much.

Believe me brother, I hear what you're saying. Retirement isn't for everybody, after awhile it gets old. Especially, when the bills start to pile up and you ain't got the cash to cover them.

Besides that, I've always believed that if a man has his health and he wants to work then he should regardless of his age.

Take care of yourself, my friend and have a great week...Bill

Ha ha! I like this. Fortunately, I managed to retire and remain mostly unmolested by my wife--I say 'mostly' because every once in a while she comes up with a 'Honey-do' that cuts into my life of leisure. However, I've heard of the exact situation you've so well penned here. Great writing, pleasurable and entertaining poem!

Thank you for your excellent review, I appreciate it. Good luck to you in your retirement. I've managed to survive 18 years of retirement, so far.

You'll do fine as long as you don't let that "honey-do-list" turn into a "Oh no-you don't-list." That sure cuts down on the activities that us guys enjoy most...LOL...Thanks again...Bill

We've managed to work out our space, although Elaine retired earlier than me, by the time I retired, she had her post retirement activities all worked out, but I've well and truly worked, and we have similar interests, but not the same. A very wonderful and lighthearted way of looking at things Bill, excellent writing my friend, great work, articulate, smooth and abcb rhyming, well done, blessings, Roy

    Hello Roy,

Thank you Roy for your great review, I appreciate it.

Retirement can be a wonderful thing if everything is planned out well ahead of time, especially your finances. However, I have several friends that have retired and discovered it just wasn't for them or their wives so they went back to work.

Thank you Roy for your thoughts...God bless you and your family during all these trying times. For your country, first the fires and now this Corona-virus...God help us all...Bill

Cedar,
Your poem, "Honey Do List" is very funny, yet I can see why anyone would return to work. Yes, most of us look forward to retirement, including me (8 years). I like how you made your poetry lines rhyme. Your image for your poem is on point. Your poem structure was good and I didn't see any needed revisions. I felt your pain. Also, I enjoyed reading this one. Good job.
Keep writing:-)

    Hello Joy,

I actually wrote this poem many years ago. I've been retired for 19 years now due to (in part) to being diagnosed with MG which is basically the same as MS.

Have a great week my friend...Bill
