This is excellent, Nomi. I was a flight attendant for an airline and I don't fly at all anymore. It's the fastest way to get from here to there, but a tragedy like this one is a terrible thing. Marilyn

Yes, even though there is a very small possibility of being shot down via missile here in the US, there is always the specter of mechanical failure. So, one still takes a small chance when flying, but this is also true of traveling by car, bus or train.

It makes me worry about family flying these days. My 9 year granddaughter worries there will be war. And she does not understand why war happens. I say they are people just like us, only that certain leaders in the world, like Hitler at one time, made serious decisions and innocent people had to suffer. Let's hope our children and grands have a life to live ahead of them.

So many things make no sense.you ask really pertinent questions. Who knows? While many people die in many bizarre and unexpected ways, why increase the odds by flying? Very thought provoking.

My initial problem with flying was that the last time I flew I became so uncomfortable that I only got relief when I stood up. At first I thought it was only me, until I saw several other men also standing. That did it for me.

-Thanks for sharing
your poem and thoughts, nomi338.
-It is a well written poem
with effective meter, imagery,
rhyme, and message.
-I like your point about
weapons of war:
"Once unleashed, they claim another soul."
-It is not a good situation,
but we can only hope and pray
for better times and better attitudes.
-Thanks for sharing.

Iran has admitted it and said it was a mistake, but who knows? Over 100 people died, which affects the lives of countless others. The images were painful to see, many children were on that plane. You described this terrible situation very well, with a good image to go along with it. Thanks for this poem!

Thank you for your favorable review. I very much appreciate your thoughts on the subject. It was a terrible outcome for people who trusted that they would safely arrive at the destination they paid hard earned money for.

Nomi,

'Nuff said, indeed! Sometimes I wonder why we still climb into those things! But then, I realize the statistics are still far and away on the side of the airlines. I mean, we get into cars everyday allllll day and those things are reaaallly scary. hahahaha

It's all a mind-game. If we think about things too much we'd never leave the house!

But you make a great point. Thanks, friend!

Thank you. Actually planes are not that unsafe. The plane in this situation was not malfunctioning, the problem was that some nincompoop decided that they were under attack and fired a missile at an aircraft carrying innocent civilians

It seems unlikely that anyone would shoot at a plane unintentionally knowing the damage the weapon used would cause. Obviously, at least in my mind, it was intentional and they should be held accountable for taking the lives of innocent people. xoxo

You are absolutely correct. I am most surprised that they even admitted their culpability in this horrible act. I do believe that it will backfire on them in the end.

Too much like a side-kick retaliation. Wouldn?t think of doing that to a US plane, so cowards go for our neighbor.

Your words paint a sad and scary picture, nomi. There is good flow and rhyme and great imagery. Your art choice, sadly, is perfect. With the news about the incident, I'd say they meant to shoot it down. Thanks for sharing. Respectfully, Jan

Thank you Jan. I have little doubt that it was an unintentional act. I think though that this act will backfire in a very meaningful way. The next few days will tell the story.

You said it well. This is timely, right from the headlines of the last few days. As you say, whether they meant it or not, weapons of war destroy lives. Whoever is to blame is not as important as the lives lost in the plane. Thank you for writing this well written piece on a subject that needs to be discussed.
Take care, Jesse

That was a really sad day that all those innocents died because someone made a mistake. A newlywed couple died in that plane, they didn't have a chance to make a life together. Your poem says it all. So sad. Sandra xxx

Yes I agree. I am well aware that death can come from any direction, by accident, sickness, even peacefully in one's sleep. Death, however it comes is never an easy thing to deal with on the part of the one's left behind.
