This was a good read and I loved the layout and picture. Wish you well in the contest. One question...I bought a peck...what is a peck also should it be b(r)ought

Thank you so much for the marvelous review and generous six stars, dear Louise. I put a note at the bottom of the page in authors note, a peck is approximately 12 pounds of apples. I would pay the orchard owner and lug them home after picking them myself. From there, I made pies and applesauce. Im so pleased you enjoyed my Apple Path story in a poem.
Sending you and Geoff my best today as always,

This is a sweet and pleasant poem and, having just taken my first-ever apple-picking trip this month, I fully understand the lure of the orchard (and the fresh-baked pie to follow). Your rhymes and near rhymes work. However, in the second stanza, you rhymed the first, second and fourth lines. The minute you rhyme the first two lines, it sets up an expectation for the next two lines to rhyme with one another as well. To avoid that, and get back to the abab pattern you'd established in the rest of the poem, you just need to change "was I," in the first line of the stanza, to "I was." That way, the only expectation is for the second and fourth lines to rhyme, which they do. Good luck in the contest.

This made me think of my maternal grandmother, when she was alive, and her best recipe ever for shredded apple pies. I think with these lines: A girl on a strategic mission, was I,

apples were calling, their taunting reply.
I would try it this way:
A girl on a strategic mission was I;
apples were calling a taunting reply.

Good luck in the contest!

Thanks for sharing this poem about making a prize-winning apple pie for the fair. Sounds like that might be based on an actual experience. I'll bet that pie was very good!

I love this poem. Perfect for this time of the season. I want to go home and gather some apples and bake one. I hope you can bake one soon too. My family and I will be going to an apple orchard soon. Can't wait.

Sally,

What a fabulous 'take a walk' poem. hahaha Though I'm not sure it's fair for you to enter the contest you INSPIRED! hahahaha

That's quite an achievement, you know. *smile*

This was a lot of fun! Thanks!

Loved your apple story poem! Not only did you give us the story of an apple picking adventure which was rewarded with pie, you also made me think of the path of life on earth and how rewarding it is to give thanks to God and receive His prize in Heaven.

So true. We lived in New York and I picked apples every year and made pies and sauce. I miss it so. The orchard I visited regularly went on and on. It was hard to find my way back. Thank you for the lovely review. I wish you apples.

Super and you're smart to make use of that second pie. I often end up with two pies and have to find someone to give the second pie - to. We cannot eat that much pie. I chop up some apples and freeze them - thus have enough for more pies. I make a great crust (recipe from an older grandma of a friend) - it gets rave reviews - but those come from folks who like pie.
Very nice pie - makes my mouth water.

Your poem is very well-written, descriptive, and delightful. Your smoothly flowing creation tells a charming story of acquiring the apples, using them wisely, then the reward--a ribbon-winning pie.

Apples sure are delicious any way they are prepared. I love apple pie too so good and yummy when made into apple pies and applesauce.
