Very nice presentation, Nancy but a sad account nonetheless. Abuse of any kind on humans or animals is intolerable in my book. Poor horses probably have no advocates protecting them from the abuse mentioned in your poem. Bless you, my friend for this undertaking. Bob

Wonderful poem that shows compassionate understanding about horses who lived a good long life and served well but is now mostly forgotten. It's also a good metaphor for how some people feel in retirement.
Suggestion:

What a sad poem, heartbreaking for sure. If it were my horse I'd make sure the poor thing wouldn't feel alone. Probably give him extra care. It's very well-written, emotional, nicely done.

There's an old movie, "SMOKEY" starring Fred McMurry. It tells the story of a very strong bond between this man and an incredibly independent horse. Your poem reminds me a great deal of this movie. Best wishes.

I placed my daughter on her first when 9 years of age. She won many blue ribbons and continued. She now has a ranch. I love this poem of tribute to that old cow pony. So real.

We were ranchers as well Ben. My oldest daughter has a working ranch still, but I had to forget the animals when Jim died. I couldn't afford them. Thanks for the review and stars Have a lovely day! Nancy:)

Loved the words as I read the poem. Well put down on paper. Desperately wanted a return of the cowboy at end end. Felt i was going to get satisfaction. Didn't get it. Very sad!

You grab this Westerner's heart strings with this poem about an old cow pony forgotten and alone. You do a fine job of telling the pony's life story, and we wish the cowboy was around to scold for leaving his steed alone like this. Rod

This reminded me of an old English folk song 'Poor Old Horse. Before the days of motor cars the horse was definitely a friend and workmate to so many. This was a most enjoyable read. Thanks for sharing.

This speaks a memoir of a cow pony that is forgotten, its services and commitment liked and loved by its cowboy; well said, well done. Write to inspire -- DR ALCREATOR

Absolutely love the poem and am a devout horse lover. I question the line that states "Where with sped and dedication...". Should that not read "Where with speed and dedication..."? That really threw me. Other than that I could find no wrong. Truly wonderful picture. Just to add, I miss having a horse, too.
