Picture displays exactly how my dog acts, and he's no Chihuahua. He's a 90 pounder who enjoys laying out just like the puppy pictured is.

How many times do we wish we could do the same thing?

That in itself caught my interest real quick.

Well written poem depicts its theme.

Should make an interesting entry into this contest.

Thank you, Brett, for your review and for wishing me well in the contest. Yes, I wish I could live this life. On vacation in Sayulita, Mexico, my niece, an art teacher, spent twenty minutes giving my dog Mina here tummy rubs in order to coax her to remain in that position for the shot.

Lovely photo of this tiny doggy lying in the sun, dogs day of summer. Great entry for the contest. Best wishes for it. I will look out for you.

Haha, this is just so funny! I'm slightly scared of dogs and this is just plain cute for everything. Small but simple just like I like a poem.

I'm thinking that there Chihuahua needs to slip, slap slop or it gonna be in serious trouble : ) I enjoyed the humor and entertaining little 5-7-5 contest poem friend. The accompanying artwork it to cool for school, ha ha. Good luck!

You on vacation AGAIN friend... good for you. the photo was great, well done. Me and mine are off to Vietnam for two weeks at the end of September. Looking forward to that : )

No, Hitcher, I did not go on that vacation, but my niece and dog did. Thus, the picture. I hope you create great work on your Vietnam vacation.

Cute satori line. Cute picture. Cute poem. Superb alliteration and consonance of S through all lines plus consonance of L in line one.

Fine form. A good entry.

Good luck!

Warmly, rd

Hi Mystery Poet
Well, I'm not sure if it's a haiku, but you certainly caught a lazy dog soaking the summer sunshine in stylish 5-7-5. Now that could be any one of us. Actually, I visualize a young maiden in a skimpy bikini.
You do have a bit of alliteration in there, makes for good reading...
"soaks in sun"
and,
"dog days"
I also like the consonance in,
"belly up poolside"
Your poem could stand alone, without the picture. That's a sign of a good haiku poem, a moment in time, but I still wouldn't classify it as a haiku.
Good luck in the contest!
cheers,
Kimbob

Thank you, Kimbob, for your review of my stylish 5-7-5 which just won third place in the Summer Poetry Contest! On vacation in Sayulita, Mexico, my niece, an art teacher, spent twenty minutes giving my dog Mina tummy rubs to coax her to hold that position for the shot.

I love the picture you chose for this poem. And winder if this is a photo from your own photo album. The idea of summer is undoubtedly portrayed. Lying by the poolside and soaking up the sun. Dont forget to turn over. Lol. And sunscreen. Unless of course, you're a chihuahua.

Nicely written Haiku with effective Satori. Though if I were there, I'd toss the mutt into the pool! Don't like teeny little dogs. I don't consider an animal a dog if you can hurt it with a Frisbee.

Hey, the mutt actually got in the pool while on vacation in Mexico. It was so hot, it did not resist a dip. Thank you for your review.

How many times have we seen dogs lie like that? so funny. however this little chap is going to have a sun burned tummy. Dog days of summer - very clever. And he is indeed bellying -up.

What a cute picture. And yes, poolside and soaking up the sun all are perfect thoughts about summer. Then the final pun about the "dog days of summer" is a fitting ending.
