Not only love this well written poem, but knew a doctor with the same credentials when I was but a wee child. In fact, he took my tonsils out when I was three. Wow, this really blows me away. The words just seem to flow lout of you without a problem. Nice job and best wishes in the contest. Drew xx

Very original and interesting theme, Nancy.

You capture the doc's personality, achievements and high esteem, perfectly, and express how his busy important work didn't allow for romance but somehow compensated for its absence..

Excellent meter, rhyme and enjambment.

Nice touch to include his horse, Ned, his faithful companion.

My only nit-pick - you know me, I usually have to have ONE, LOL, is the fantasy of the last line. Though I know you're implying this was his esteem, it just didn't work for me.

Anyway, the best poem I've read for a while, and well worth my sixer.

Good luck and best wishes, Ray.

A wonderful poem Nancy, the story is a fabulous one, from your storehouse of great stories, they certainly don't make like they used to. My wife goes to w doctor who takes ages with each patient, knows them all personally, well done, beautifully written, in even tempo in aabb rhyming with the couplet, great communication, good luck in the contest, blessings, Roy

Hello Nancy, your poem is a wonderful dedication to all the frontier and country doctors across America. Your lines and verses are heartfelt with silky rhyming within.

Of note:
he had no time for family so he remained alone.

(Ohhhh, so sad, but yet so true of many.)

Of special interest:
If shots rang out you'd hear a shout,
"Somebody fetch Doc quick,"

(Ohhh, the systems in place before the day of the telephone, and amazingly, people survived and had more money in their pockets.)

A fun and wonderful story in a poem that illustrates a piece of American history. Excellent writing. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

Very nice the way the literary devices like alliteration sang a flowing tune. Such dedication and sacrifice of docs. Brings back memories old westerns I love to watch. liberty justice

Hi, Nancy

_ Good stuff in this one. (*<*)
_ Indeed, many times back in the day, the doctor got paid in many things--not always money.
_ Great story poem entry. Good luck in the contest.

* Happy Thanksgiving & Merry Christmas to you and yours *

Cheers & Blessings
Keep Smilin'... Jacqueline-Jackie-Jax (*:*)

Here is a great wild west story skilfully undersold in quatrains of perfectly rhyming coulets all in impeccable iambix heptameters that never miss a beat. This was a really good read.
