Given the second anniversary of Sandy Hook was a couple days ago, this poem made me think of that. Any time there is a shooting in a school, what usually happens is the death of some students/teachers, and the shooter dies and we are left wondering why. The way your poem ended left me with that same emptiness.

Bullying has always been a problem but now with all the social media, I think it is even worse. This is a wonderful entry for the contest - good luck.

This was an incredible poem. The words, the feelings, the sadness, the bullies. It was all here. his stomach in ten thousand knots
full of demoralizing fright. You could feel this going on inside him. Then the ending, the gun. Now he was someone... When it was over, he was gone too Somebody now, that everyone knew. I hate bullying, no matter what form....children, adults, work colleagues..... This really got to me. Good luck in the contest with this amazing poem. Genya

Hi the author,

Bullying is indemic in our society it seems, and where, in times past, a teacher might spot it, and cane the perpetrator, or force him into 'three rounds in the ring' with his victim, now it goes unpunished. The worst cyber bullies, I have discovered, are girls apparently. The bullies are often socially inadequate and being abused - or so it is said.

Good poetic way to highlight one outcome. The other is straight suicide, the more common 'solution' the bullied child takes.

A horrifying reality. I blame the school system (Principal and teachers)- they should be educating the school kids (in the absence of parental advice and guidance) and punishing it harshly if it gets found out. My son was bullied at school in Long Island, and the Principal dismissed it and ignored my complaints. Luckily, my son took up weight-lifting in self defence, that's how scared he was. Well written commentary on this awful ordeal. Good luck in the contest. Faye

It is sad when adults dont step up and protect the bullied. Thank you for your review.

You certainly met the prompt, and I saw no absurdities in logic or SPAGS, so this depressingly true-to-life poem must get five stars.

Hi anon - a very realistic poem on a subject that everyone is all too familiar with. Well rhymed, slight hitches in some lines with meter construction, but the abcb on the whole is really good. The end came as a shock - I expected suicide which is the usual way out with those who are bullied - but murder and suicide - wow! Well done and good luck in the contest. Warm regards Dorothy

Yikes this gave me chills. I homeschooled my children from the third grade up but before that my son was bullied. He complained of neck pain because a kid jumped on his neck ...the principal said I had to understand that the kid had ADHD and I said he had to understand my son had to go to the chiropractor. It is a travesty. I say listen truly listen to your kids.
God bless and thanks

We give our teachers crowded class room and a work agenda that leaves little time for one-on-one interaction. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good read.

Nice alliteration with, "Their taunting so tenacious", and "cowered at the corner table".

A timely and very pertinent message that in today's society is an all too real occurrence, it's sad to say.

Your rhyming and rhythm are good as well.

In this day of Facebook and other social media, and the advent of the internet, bullies are no longer restricted to just bullying kids at school. Now they can do it from the comfort of their homes, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

My wife works with a girl who came home to find her twelve-year-old hanging, dead in their home. Twelve! And it just happened this past Wednesday. So, it's an all too real message you're putting out there. It ain't merely fiction or speculation.

Best of luck to you in the contest. ~Dean
