Hmm, interesting post. More so because I have my own thoughts about the supposed competitions on FS.
The idea, I feel, is good but badly implemented. I feel only rare incentive to view the voting booths. On those occasions I do try to read and review every entry.
But why would anyone bother to do that really when the majority of entries reward you next to nothing for your investment of time?
I think the competition mechanism need to be shaken up to make them more rewarding to vote in so that more people will want to enter or feel that entering is worth while.
Why use your member cents to enter when you could more exposure simply promoting your work?

Exactly. Five dollars plus more to promote and you might get ten review, if lucky. I have a couple of other grievances to air in another post. Didn't think of them until now.

I don't enter into contests, and I really don't care anymore how I am rated, as far as the top of the list goes. I just want people to read what I write. I enjoyed reading this well written article... John
