Dear Barbara,
great dialect in this one - it flows so well and feels natural. Great imagery and overall smooth transitions between your characters. I wonder when they will believe in ghosts....those boys are going to need some proof.
Excellent writing - short post I was wanting to read more.
Thanks for sharing it.

Ha ha, love it, Clyde would be Nala's uncle. Yay!

I knew I liked Bookman for a reason. Finally a piece of southern history I can get behind. Yippy. But Walker trying to kill James over escaped slaves shows the Walker blood is bad to the bone.

My people on my father's side are from South Carolina. I one auntie knows something the whole town knows it. I feel for Cash - lol.

Oh man don't leave me hanging waiting for Clyde to finish this story. But you have made me want to stick that apple pie I've got in my freeze in the oven. Mmm.

I'm blaming you for the extra calories. lol

Another great chapter that keeps me wanting to know more. You make me want to look up how to make a peach pie. Peaches cost a fortune down here but what the heck....I look forward to the next chapter.

I love the dialogue, and the whole conversation going on, although I did get a little confused, in an area, I thought it was established that Nala was Amos's niece in these few paragraphs. -"My whole family did, me included. My niece still works there."

"Nala's your niece?" Billy Joe's eyes widened.

"Sho' is." Amos grinned when a large slice of pie was set in front of him. "Dem Bookmans was good people. Dey pretended we were slaves, but paid us decent wages so dem uppity white people wouldn't cause no trouble." He took a bite of pie and smacked his lips. "Story has it dat under dat house used to be one of dem underground railroads. Dey'd help our people get out." He glanced toward Clyde. "Remember my pa telling about dat Walker devil trying to kill James Bookman 'cause five slaves ran away and he accused Bookman helpin' dem?"

But then down a couple of paragraphs Amos seemed surprised that the two men knew her. - After taking a bite of pie, Cash asked, "Ever hear of a treasure chest?" He took another bite. "This is really good. Does Nala have this recipe?"

Amos laughed. "You know my niece?"

Both Billy Joe and Cash nodded. Cash glanced at the two men dressed in bib-overalls. "She's a wonderful lady and friend. We're friends with the present owner."

did I miss something? I could of as I'm down sick today. either way this was a great chapter and a joy to read.

You are correct. I need to take a look at that section. Thank you for bringing to my attention.

you are welcome, I do that all the time. Right now I am re-posting my first book, and correcting all my many errors, I repeated myself so many times. lol I have managed to cut about two thousand words just by deleting most of my repeats.

Amos has these two wrapped around his little finger! Methinks he's going to have his fill of Peach Pie before he tells Cash and Billy Joe what they want to hear.

I'm just itching to know what Amos is going to say about the treasure. And these guys need to start believing in the after life.

Good post, my friend! I shall look forward to the next.

Hi Barbara,

This is a really good chapter. I like the way you portray Cash and Billy Joe as opposed to the Walker crew, and Bradley Bookman seems like a very rare Southern Plantation owner for his time.

Darn, now you've left me hanging just at the key bit of information ...

Amos surely knows a lot and especially about the ghost that is haunting Paige's house. After discovering that Nala is his neice, they share apple pie and coffee.

Good set up for the story of Bradley the ghost, which ties into the first part of the story if I recall correctly - it's been a while hash;t it? Cash and Billy Joe are about to find out about the treasure.
