You managed to show great empathy in this chapter, describing the new of Virge's death and the ensuing trip of Rabbit and his father to Alabama. The racial relationship between the races has always been difficult, but you captured something very humane about Rabbit's grandparents. They sent food over to be served after the funeral, and they paid for Virge's funeral. I suppose there are many stories like that, probably from both sides. It's pity. Great job as usual!

Thanks for reading and for understanding the nuances of the race issue. This was written of a time I lived through and there are stories from both sides. Regards, Bill

After reading so many chapters, I had grown to love Virge, also. It was shocking to hear that he died, and Rabbit can never go back to visit him again. Those who die live on in our memories, though. Well written.

One suggestion below:

when I found out that my grandparents paid for Virge's hospital stay and for his funeral. I don't know. (I didn't know.)

April :o)

Ah Virge remembered him too. It is always heartening when you read such as this to realize that there is compassion out there.
