A very well-written poem about the walk and the temptation of the apple tree to eat some and make an apple pie from the others taken home, lead to winning the prize at the fair.

Hi Sal. So good to see a beautiful post like this for the season. I remember visiting orchards wth my kids years ago when they were still learning and eager. Now, a visit to the cider mill would probably give them a laugh.
I thought at first that a peck would make one heck of a lot more than one pie:
"I bought a peck and lugged them home,
a pie was their fate, I declared."
Glad to see you made more. LOL Good poem, my friend. : ) Bob

This meets the contest requirements splendidly as you deliver a delightfully fun and well penned Rhymed Verse that speaks volumes about the picture taken. While the pic is a tad contrived (never quite saw them fall from the tree is such a clear pattern), I enjoyed the entire package immensely. Good luck in the judging and thank you very much for sharing it.

I grew up with apple trees and we had pies all the time. Yummy! When I married and moved here, the first thing I did was plant apple trees, and we continued the delicious tradition. They didn't last long, tho, since this climate is too dry. The cherry trees produced well, but only for about ten years, then they too died. Sad.

Thank you for the excellent review and insightful comments. If I were a farmer, I would have an apple orchard. I adore apples any time and in every dish.

Hey Sally. That is a great picture of Apples. Next time you need to add a picture of the pie. I have to say, I have not heard anyone use the word peck in a long time. When I buy them at the store now they're in a clear plastic bag by the pound. Peck and bushel were a lot more fun back in the day. Z

In my native Georgia, apples are sold by the peck and bushel. They also used to offer barrels or large crates. Eyeballing it, I looked to be two to three bushels. I love apples and eat at least one a day. Thank you so much for the excellent review and compliments, Z.

Hi Sal. In the NC mountains they are bought in the sack by the pound. Best wishes to you Sal. Z

You do sometimes take long walks in apple orchards to find the apples you want. Both the fresh apples and the apple pie sound so good.
Good luck in the contest

I hope this is a true story...being the pie contest winner at a fair is quite an achievement. (Your posting made me hungry for apple pie...I'll just have to go out and get some.) :-) Sincere best wishes in the 'Take A Walk Poetry' contest. I sure enjoyed strolling along with you on this one! xoxo

I enjoyed your contest entry, Sally. You did a great job detailing your walk experience. Your words are well-chosen, they create great imagery, and were fun to read. I could 'see' you walking down the path with anticipation then taking the apples home for the pies--after you ate that first one. Thanks for sharing and best wishes. Respectfully with Admiration. Jan

Thank you so much, dear Jan. I?m glad you enjoyed my apple tribute and contest entry. I have little self control where apples are concerned as confessed in my poem.

I agree with you Sally, apples are very delicious, and apple pie likewise thought to be delicious also, but not by me personally. There's such a variety of lovely fruit, and there are different pies...yum, I'm off, I'm going to get some pie and ice cream. Well done Sally, beautifully written quatrains in adept abab rhyming. Well done, blessings, Roy

Thank you so much, Roy. I rhyme without knowing it. I just like it to sound good and flow. I must make an apple pie after this one! How could I not?
