Exceptional

That's my type of woman, lol, I love to try on as many as I can before deciding I liked the first one best! Graham would be you! Lol.
I loved the begging bird, I'd have brought him a cake all for himself, :)) I'm wondering if Helen will be proud of you for the price you paid for the ring, I bet Charles was done good and proper. There are some crafty people when it comes to selling to the English or the Americans. Lots of fun in this chapter, Tony, and loads of detail. I really enjoyed it. Well done! :) Sandra xx

This must be a feminine trait. My wife always has to examine every possible choice before returning to the first thing she saw! I'm with Charles (and Graham) every inch of the way!
Somehow, I doubt Helen would have been too impressed by Charles's negotiating skills. He'd do well not to brag about them!
Very many thanks for your fun review and the sixth star. As always, much appreciated. All good wishes, Tony

We saw an amputee on a trolley in Luxor when we were visiting our niece. Your story brought the memory back to me.

Very little to report here. :)

I felt a bit of a heel abandoning him, but life is precious..
- did you mean to have double dots at the end?

Poor quality. Not suitable for a gentleman."
I picked one at random. "This will do. How much?" - I think there needs to be a space between these two paragraphs.

Best wishes
Judy

As always, I appreciate your sharp eye, and I've made the adjustments you suggested. Yes, I've occasionally come across these maimed beggars. Particularly appalling when children are deliberately maimed to make them more heartrending, and therefore more successful in their begging.

This was a very interesting read, and reminiscent of the stories I heard about Egypt and Pakistan from coworkers who traveled there. You did a nice job on this.

You captured the sights, sounds and savours of the market as well as the apprehension caused by Rasheed's driving.

Charles' attempts at bargaining made me smile.

The only thing that didn't quite resonate was the reaction of the salesgirls. They have a live customer in Helen so "despairing look" and "shrugged helplessly" aren't appropriate, in my opinion. More likely "impatient look" since he's interrupting them; and " shrugged, smiling."

Perhaps Charles misinterprets their reactions since you're writing from his POV? LOL.

Blessings Julia

Many thanks for your review, Julia, and your comment about the salesgirl. I had in mind that she was doing this surreptitiously, behind Helen's back. However, I can see how it doesn't quite gel. Will have another look at that. All the best, Tony

She must be related to Houdini, she has a habit of escaping when least expected LOL. The description of the market is very well done as tourists are mobbed by beggars in many of those countries. I'm beginning to think he has a bottomless wallet - he has got to be getting low on funds and they have only just arrived. Well done and thank you very much for sharing it.

Yes, this bottomless wallet is a bit of an issue. I shall have to address it, one way or another, when I start the structural edit. It's a flaw that I've been becoming increasing aware of.
