What an interesting beginning to a story. The thought that someone doesn't like us usually holds true under all circumstance. The fact that Kathy was told by her mother in law those wonderful things is.amazing. Good start to a story Patty, quite imaginative, in real life probably wishful thinking. This is such an unusual and interest catching story. I enjoy the form you used for 'conversation' as the reader follows the lead of a written letter. Nice.
I think we all have relationships that make us ask: 'what does she really want?' Even if they could give $50,000! Then to think that this mother-in-law liked her best and just couldn't have her children know it....gets you thinking.
PS) hope she saved some so she could publish more on FS! :)
Looking forward to more, gotta see what happens.

Great story beginning and plot! It's so sad that people aren't brave enough to say all that they need/want to say especially the good, affirming things to their loved ones before it's too late.

This is well written and clear. How one does not share with another one his/her true feelings in life, but does so in death boggles the mind. I do suppose there are many who handle things like this for some reason. It will be interesting to find out how things proceed from here. Off to a good start. Marilyn

The part about Kathy wanting the approval from Jane that she couldn't get from her own mother really ties in the hurt emotions that existed in their relationship. Looking forward to the next chapter!
