I've read others for this contest Nancy. This is the best.
This poem is so smooth in read and it makes you
want to read it out loud. Your story is also very complete,
yet the poem is not very long at all. That's quite an
artistic trick to do.
I wish you well in the contest, Nancy. -Bill

Thank you for the review and comment Bill. When a poem is long it sometimes gets boring. I believe in getting to the point and moving on. LOL I appreciate the compliment. xx Nancy

Early doctoring was done by using organic healing. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good read. Good luck in your contest.

I really enjoyed this tribute to the frontier doctors of the Old West, Nancy, whose importance cannot be emphasized enough. Your "Doc"--like so many real ones--is totally selfless and a humble servant. Excellent characterization here.
Flawless use of rhyming heptameter and occasional internal rhyme. Rod

Quite a composition, Nancy, and a wonderfully written entry in the Share A Story In A Poem contest. I should just concede right now and be thankful mine was able to do as well as it did because there's no way I'm topping this.
Your rhyming, meter, cadence and flow were impeccable, as always.
Hats of to you in advance. I'll be very surprised if this doesn't take first place.
Great work, Nancy, and good luck!

That's quite a compliment Dean. I don't know what to say. Don't give up yet my friend not until all the votes are in. LOL I couldn't even find a doc with a horse and buggy picture and you always have such lovely presentations. Blood and all. HAha. Nancy

Oh, I have a few such photos of old western docs, Nancy. But you failed to ask me.
Again, best of luck, and you're very welcome.

Nancy;
-what a very magnificent story within a poem where you have capitalized the essence and the feel of a doctor during the 1800's. Your poem does read like a prose however, them rhyming and rhythmic meter sets it off to it being a perfect poem.
- I like how you intertwined the busyness of a family doctor during that time when all he had was his horse and buggy to carry him to the places of injured or sick patients.
- I also like how you written about the horse would take him home without him being awake in the driver seat because the horse knew what to do. That was the case back then.
- each of your rhyming words were contingent to the meaning and concept of each line which made the rhythm flow smoother and also the rhyming was neither forced no labored which was also helpful in this manner.
- obviously your meter was iambic heptameter which is a good meter for writing a story and your cadence, timing and tempo also helpful in making the reading clear, fluid and very easy.
- the picture was most appropriate, relative and complementary to your writing and added a good mood right from the start.
- near and notable alliteration's: "shoulders seem to sag", "went where".
- I wish you all the best in the contest and may the good Lord be with you always and especially thank you for sharing this wonderful story.

Great story telling. I am currently reading (slowly) through the history of my home town. I grew up in post depression years in a very rural area of West Tennessee. Some of this fits in with things I remember especially a country doctor. I wish you well in the contest.

Very unique, Nancy. I enjoyed it. the rhythm and rhymes are good. Tells a nice story of a doctor in the old days. The picture is very appropriate, too. Good job. Hugs. Sally (I've got a double funeral tomorrow. My brother-in-law and sister-in-law passed away within 3 days of each other.) Rose was my husband's sister.

I am in awe here. Your poem reads like a mini movie and one longs for a doctor like this man. He worked so hard and took care of everyone. Excellent poetic form that tells a story in few words but says much. This poem also reminds me of Robert Service's poetry, one of my favorite poets.

They could always depend on the old Doc, wonderful tale in good form, good rhyme and good flow. We had a doctor like that, knew everybody and their past generations. Best wishes for the contest.

What a wonderful story, told in appealing heptameter and perfect rhymes. You have done a good job telling the story of this wonderful Frontier Doc, who tended to so many ills, along with his trusty horse Ned.
I feel that he measured ten feet tall metaphorically - in the eyes of everyone who was helped by him.
nice job!

Yes, I'm sure he was bigger than life to the many people he saved or nursed. Thanks for the review Carole. xx Nancy
