I'd never heard of this. Especially hanging a woman. Thought that wasn't done without a trial. Wild West sure earned its name back then. Not a place for the meek.
You did a terrific job telling the story, with good rhyme and meter. Is there ANYTHING you can't write about? I'm impressed. :)

It was quite a thing at the time. Many women were killed right along beside their men in that standoff. It was bloody! Thanks for the review! Hugs. Nancy

Wow, Nancy - I tempted you to enter a contest, and thanks for doing so.
Very interesting recital of an episode in those brutal lawless mercenary times.
I guess individuals could kill anyone and claim they were rustlers to get the reward.
Excellent.
Good luck and best wishes, Ray xx

It was that bad. I have a plan for a follow up poem where Tom Horn supposedly killed a 14 year old boy and was hanged for it but there was never any proof he did it. That will be next! LOL Thanks Ray. Good luck to you as well. Nancy

Range wars were always very brutal. This is very well written with a smooth flow of wars, making for a very good read. There is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good Read.

Tom Horn, I think was in this dispute. Good one, Nancy. Quiet nasty happenings. I wrote something about this years ago, but nothing as keen as this. Well done. Blessings to you. You have my vote.

Dear Nancy, well this battle I never heard of so thanks for the history lesson. I was surprised about them lynching a woman in that era. Great story poem, excellent rhyme and easy flow. Good luck in the contest.
Thanks for sharing,
Maureen

It's another story of the old west. I will probably write at least one more on the Johnson County War and Jim Horn. Thanks for the review Maureen. It was supposed to be blind so I may be diqualified. I don't know how this works. Were you sent a message it was my poem? Nancy

It showed up in my inbox with your pen name on it:)
oops
-
doesn't say anything about being a blind prompt - maybe it's not one:)

Guess not!

You have framed the battle of rustlers, citizens and the cavalry very well that settled into peace with an enemies distraction. The constraints were well taken and executed.

Hi, Nancy,
I like this story about the old frontier. Thinking outside the box is great, instead of other battles that have been told to death.
Excellent entry. Good luck in the contest.
Have a great weekend.
Cheers & Blessings
