This poem is everything that a poem should be and more.
It glows and glistens in every line and word.
Great artwork.it should be near children in a school or library setting.
I used think Winter was a magical time of year but for many reasons it just isn't any longer.
The one bright spot is volunteering to raise funds and get toys for an organization here called Kids with Cancer which is based on Staten Island.
The magical help that Santa gets from his"Eli's" is fun for a Hebrew kid who only knew him. As the guy that never comes to homes with menorahs.

Thank you, Maddy, for your generous and gracious response to this poem :-) My daughter nannies a little Jewish girl. Christmas is always an "interesting" time as Nora's one grandmother, the more "modern" one, goes with Miranda to take Nora to see Santa, while the other grandmother, the more traditional one, does not approve. I appreciate your generous six stars :-) Brooke

Most of my family married interfaith except for me. My nieces have had Santa and menorahs all there lives.
I have Catholic Italians and Irish in my family.

Hi Brooke
Superb presentation ...wonderful poem. Such a delight, you almost make me want to be there. :)
Such lovely descriptions ... love the snow as pearls. Love "wind whirling", "soft the sound". Excellent phrasing throughout ... I feel amidst the flurry, the chill ... which is appreciated here in Oz.
"where Winter's waved her magic wand" .... just as you have with your poem. I'm smiling ... your chilly poem makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Lovely work. Hugs - Lovi xoxoox

What a lovely seasonal poem. I would love to hear a class of school children reciting this at a special Christmas function.
Thank you for the cooling thoughts, especially when it has been around 102 degrees here in Queensland today. A very freakishly hot day! Certainly turned it on for the G20.

Kym and Jade, you are most encouraging and generous. I wish it were warm here today - I am not a friend of the cold even if snow is pretty :-) Brooke

Beautiful imagery and personification...lovely meter, rhythm and rhyme...I could picture standing outside during a snow storm envisioning your words come to life...favorite line: Pure the pearls the world is wearing --
no expense is Winter sparing.

You're most welcome :) I noticed recently that most of your pieces are only available to upgraded members only which saddened me, for I have always enjoyed reading and commenting on your lovely work. I was extremely pleased to have seen that this one was available for my review. Peace be with you :)

I have allowed standard members to review for years - maybe the site changed what I allowed accidentally, but I really don't block standard members. I'll have to go check.

Perhaps you're right about the site being changed..I enjoy reading your poetry so much :)

Amazing how much cold weather ... and snow has touched the continent in the past week. I love snow so your description of them as 'pearls' is fine - I suspect others might disagree. Nice poem to get us used to what is really coming. Jean

Thank you, Jean :-) In actuality, I am NOT a fan of snow, but I write poetry about its beauty to convince myself it's not as bad as I think it is. LOL Brooke :-)

Ah the snow. You characterized it as little white pearls and described them in some incredible alliteration of W, and S. Loved the rhyming and the imagery full of action.

This certainly describes much of the United States these past few days. This morning our town saw a low temperature of 30 degrees. I love Winter, but this is too cold for me. I enjoyed the poem.

The plethora of present participles works quite well here with a somewhat onomatopoeic effect for the swirl and flurry of snowflakes. Your technique of echoing the same lines at the beginning and at the end gives a nice sense of closure, too. This is a poem that has me reaching for my scarf.
