Thanks so much, Gaye. The gone/dawn thing is our Australian/American accents colliding :-) Believe me, they rhyme in my corner of the globe :-) Brooke

This is a beautiful and perfectly crafted poem picture pair. The poem is instructive and an enjoyable read. Sawyer will love when he is able to read it. Thanks for sharing. Bob

How very cute. I love all the ways you express the world and its revelations. Makes us all look with new eyes at what you bring before us. I think it's because you're looking with a child's eyes. Sawyer's in fact. Very good.

Wonderfully crafted. Yes, only small children think like this. They still believe in magic and aren't bound by our ridged rules. We all played with our shadows when we were young. It's shame we don't anymore.

This poem, with that child's voice, reminds me of those precious, precious times as a child that I pondered so many innocent questions like this one. It takes me back to a good place.

Very sweet. Every kid needs his shadow buddy. The photo selection was a good choice for this poem. This could be a metaphor for someone regarding a friendship but I do not think so. It's about the relationship of a boy and his shadow. Well written.

Hi Brooke
I only know one thing about shadows. They're attached to your feet, somehow. Glue? Nails? Scotch Tape? Velcro?
When I was a cub, we used to celebrate Lord Baden Powell night in February (I think) each year. The Brownies, Cubs, Girl Guides, Scouts and Venturers would sing songs and put on skits. It was like a Laverne & Shirley talent show. One year, the scouts put up a white sheet, and with the help of a bright light and shadows, they staged an "operation" using saws and hammers. They'd haul almost anything out of that famous victim. It was a spectacular show! Shadows can be fun in more ways than one.
Great picture of Sawyer having fun with his shadow.
I especially like the alliteration in these lines,
"Some people celebrate the sun"
"reappears with regularity"
and consonance in
"making morning glories bloom"
I always like to see inner rhyme...
"Appreciation flows from those"
My favourite verse,
"I miss him when the sun dips down
and wonder where he's gone --
Is there some place where shadows go
between the dusk and dawn?"
Nicely penned!
Thanks for sharing.

Brooke, this is so perfect! What a fantastic, rare shot of a shadow Saywer is casting, and it dances! An award-winning photo.
Loved it.
For when the morning sun appears,
my shadow tags along,
and he and I have always known --
together, we belong.
I miss him when the sun dips down
and wonder where he's gone --
Is there some place where shadows go
between the dusk and dawn?
I enjoyed the adventures of our little Sawyer again, and of course, his happiness over his own shadow. Give him a kiss for me.

Thank you so much, Yelena :-) We blow kisses to each other over the phone. I don't get to kiss him in person until December 5. Yes, it is a wonderful photo, isn't it? Brooke

A unique photo.

A pleasant walk with a shadowy friend. Your line, "between the dusk and dawn," reminds me of a poem in progress (i have a passel of them) in which the search for the perfect rhyming word led me to refer to life as the time between dust and dust Which for one with no illusions about afterlives is an interesting ... observation? conclusion? or something.

Another wonderfully light and amusing poem that makes such good use of something that usually goes unnoticed.
"For when the morning sun appears,
my shadow tags along,
and he and I have always known --
together, we belong...."
A perfect match for the picture. Congratulations on those awards. Pete
