I like the way you portray lack of compassion for others is rooted in lack of compassion for the self."mortal shell, ambassador of fiery hell" very powerful imagery .
i think that this would have been even better had you kept the syllable count uniform throughout. It was a little distracting an detracted from the build up.

That quote is very intriguing of John Steinbeck. I never heard about psychic vampires, but I met a few evil people. You certainly made me wonder about what is their really essence. The first stanza is the gem of the poem. Excellent artwork and creepy sound.

If there are such things as angels that walk the earth, then are also demons. Pull close the angels, push away the demons. Liked your poem. I don't know if I would have used the exact same words, but it's not my poem. Definitely is engrossing and thought provoking, what a poem should be.

I've never met monsters as described but the gang I hung around with in my teens were as close as one could get back in the 50's. Loves the musical interlude. Now I shy away from Stephen King et al. Another worthy effort.

This is a wonderful poem. You communicate your theme well. The word choice is strong. These people are called sociopaths, and they are very nasty.

Oh what a beautiful and somehow ranting write. Physical beauty never meant moral or mental beauty. Your author notes are just so powerful like the poem itself. No, I haven't met anyone like that but someones close to the description...went I realized...I ran like hell. :-)

This is another fantastic Gothic poem that the author has created with this poem. I am lured into a dark world once again by the writer of this piece of writing.

Steinbeck's supposition of a malformed souk is an interesting one. We are all a curious mixture of good and evil, and in the normal course of events each one clamours for ascendency. Take away one of the two elements and you have a saint, take away the other and you have the very devil himself. Most of the evil I have seen in people has been spawned more by circumstance than by congenital defect - at least, I think so!

I have had the misfortune of meeting someone who I would describe as pure evil. Unfortunately, they can be so charismatic, that others can't believe they could ever do anything that was cruel. We always have to keep our eyes and ears open. It's so easy to take advantage of someone's hospitality and good nature. Thanks so much for sharing. Another great poem to add to the long list of others.

In the darkness of the world, what can be darker than those with dark souls? Do dark souls exist?
Needless to ask, if there are good souls there will be bad. Some have it in their genes, some are influenced by the childhood emvironment they grew up in and yet there are those who turned dark by making wrong decisions along life's journey.
Two wrongs cannot make a right and it can only get us deeper in a wrong by doing more worngs and then finally nothing is right anymore - a dark soul we have become and the evil will never let us go free.
Dangerous to be in the dark about dark souls - it is in each and everyone of us.
We slaughter animals for food, we trampled on ants or anything that is creepy. Our soul is both dark and bright in our conscience.
So beware of the person inside of us and to control the dark side as well as the dark souls that surround our lives. Smiles.
Dreat write and well penned.
Cheerio, Ritchie. :))
