One of my sons, Steven used to call Edgar Allen Poe, the Physico dude from Baltimore. Steven was a fan of Poe. He also the best authors are William Shakespeare and Dr. Seuss. I have worried about Steven. LOL Thank you for sharing this tribute to Edgar Allen Poe with us. You did him great justice.

I've heard of Edger Allen Poe, but I'd didn't know many of the details about his life that you describe here. It's sad his wife died so young, although I'm not sure I can condone him marrying a thirteen year old, but I suppose that's what was accepted at the time. A well written piece, Debbie, I enjoyed reading it.

We had a poet who passed away but he was a Poe fan, and he preferred to write horror poetry even though he was a professed Christian, yes he was really good, I'm not a great fan of the raven, but there's no denying your great post is good Debbie, well done, blessings Roy

Hi Debbie,
This is a well done rhyming biography on this talented writer of both poetry and prose. I was first introduced to him in 8th grade by my teacher Mrs. Graham. We had a unit on him. She made each student memorize and recite their favorite part of "The Raven". Although, I though him talented, he was too dark for me.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Enjoy the rest of the day.
Joan

Thank you so much, Joan! I always love hearing personal experiences of him. It's a strange thing that his darkness may well put us off and yet it seems that Halloween and horror are arguably more popular than ever. Take care Debbie

You are most kindly welcome, Debbie.
It is an enigma. Just like people like being scared to death on roller coasters.
    You take care too.

Exquisitely done, Deb! I love the way the meter is not sing-songy but rather with much more of a hypnotic 'undercurrent,' exactly as your protagonist here would have chosen, himself, to write it.

I also like the way you presented him like an onion with so many differing-yet-captivating layers and explained each one with that D'Arcy level of vast understanding and acceptance that I've come to anticipate every week. You never just toss aside those who have flaws, but rather, you explain illuminate them with kindness and common sense. Your subjects become so REAL to us, your readers, that way, and it's why you have the following you do!

That recording of The Raven sure is haunting! Yikes! I almost couldn't listen to it all, I was becoming so creeped out!

Once again, a STELLAR job. You are simply masterful at this genre!!

I review the same way you do, Ma'am --with the same kind of thought and consideration that went into the post, instead. Anything less, and I'm kind of a slacker!! xoxo

This is a superb biographic poem about one of my favorite poets, Poe. It warrants six stars because (1) you have succinctly summarized his life and career, (2) you have informed us how he differs from other poets, and (3) you have interspersed your rhyme in a well-crafted manner. This poem was areal pleasure to read. Rod

This is such a complete, informative, and interesting piece, Debbie! We have several works from Poe in our home library, and some framed quotes here and there. He is my husband's favorite poet and writer. I asked him if he knew some of the facts you reveal, here, and he did but, I did not.

When I used to teach, I often had children in my classes who were with foster parents. I was a teacher of children with special needs, most often, throughout my career. I wish I could have brought them all home with me. I am motivated by your writing, to learn more about Poe, now.

Thank you for sharing this extraordinary work!

Alex :))
