Great job showing how The Beach Boys music and songs so well reflected the transitional days to now. In someways it was pure escapism. I understand that the brother's father was a real taskmaster to develop their talents . So many lessons to take from this as to how legends are made. Loren

Thank you so much for this wonderful review which I greatly appreciate. As do I your thoughts here. I understand, though didn't want to put it in the post, that the father actually 'weaponised' his glass eye by taking it out and getting Brian to look into the empty socket. No wonder he suffered so much later with anxiety and drug/alcohol abuse! And yet he characteristically composed such happy and carefree music. Once again, we see genius be created from pain and suffering. Thank you again, Loren, Debbie

Thank you so much, Roy, for your excellent review and all your interesting details. I'm so impressed that you too started in a garage and went on to sing in a rock band, no doubt inspired by that wonderful country of yours. You must post some pics one day. Bless you for your time and thoughts! Debbie

This is very clever poem, incorporating the titles of songs into the poem itself to help propel the narrative. As a kid I remember loving The Beach Boys a great deal; I think it's time to give them another listen.

Thank you so much again, Ben! It always amazes me how genius can be created from humble, abusive beginnings. Brian Wilson, the oldest brother, was subjected to physical assaults by his father and I have also read that his father used to terrorise him by removing his glass eye and getting Brian to look into the empty socket. Nice eh? And still he created some of the happiest music of the pop era. Debbie

They did produce some wonderful thoughts, thanking you for this remembrance, thinking back to those days: and their innocent statements of enjoy, life. A super salute, in my given opinion.

Thank you so much, Lisa, for this very kind review! I'm fascinated by your knowledge of Brian through your ex husband. I bet he was a mess after his abusive childhood and, though he brought such happiness to the world, it all proved too much for him in the end and he had to take a step back. Take care Debbie

Yes, I was quite young and unaware of what was going on ...
I do know that he slept under his piano...
    He was brilliant...

You have done a fabulous job in this poetic tribute to The Beach Boys, my absolute favorite group of the period. You were able to skillfully weave some of their most popular songs into your thorough history of their career.

I was most attracted to their unusual harmony, which included a falsetto vocalist whose voice registered higher than a traditional male tenor voice. In recent years, I've watched every Beach Boy video posted on YouTube, and marveled at the movie about young Brian Wilson's traumatic life.

Thank you so much for your kind review and lovely thoughts! I'm delighted you enjoyed because I always get quite worried that I might not do groups like this the justice they deserve. Take care Debbie

I do love the Beach Boys. I was never a Beatles fan but the boys from Cali sure made an impression on me. This brought back many reminders of their excellent, timeless music. Gretchen

"Good Vibrations" has got to be one of the rock era's five or ten greatest songs - and the competition is fierce. They are perhaps the most distinctive and unmistakable bands, and Debbie D'Arcy's poetic tribute to the Beach Boys reminds any reader of the string of great songs by the inspired musician, electric bassist, and composer, Brian Wilson. A musician friend once said to me, "You can tell in a split second that you're hearing Beach Boys harmony."

You brought back a lot of memories here with this wonderful post Debbie. My sister and I grew up on this music and we were always reminded of holidays when we heard their songs as they were so upbeat and positivity. What great music they made and I loved your fine presentation, perfect rhymes and metre and I loved all those songs, love Dolly x x x

Thank you so much, Dolly, for this kind review! They do cheer you up instantly don't they? But once again, we have this genius and talent concealing so much anguish and suffering, particularly in the oldest brother, Brian. Take care Debbie x

I remember reading that Brian composed "Good Vibrations" on a piano literally covered in cocaine, pausing from his work occasionally to snort enough to keep going. Every time I hear that song, I see cocaine, lol!

Still, it was a masterpiece. My personal favorite has always been, "Wouldn't it be Nice?"

They deserve to be one of the top American bands of all time - a varied and large volume of work. I've also read that when "Pet Sounds" was released, the four members of The Beatles gathered for a listening party. They were America's Beatles, I think.

Thanks for another great "music review", Debbie:-)

Thank you so much, Pam, for your kind, thoughtful review and fascinating facts about Brian! He was seriously put out about The Beatles and would probably have preferred The Beach Boy Beatles:)) Take care Debbie x
