Hello Jessica. You may find it hard to believe, but I never learned to cycle. My parents did not possess any bicycles, nor a car, so we were used to walking everywhere or using the bus services, which were very regular in the 1950s (in the UK) - not so now. Then, when I was 21, I passed my driving test and bought my first 'Mini', which I treated like a sports car. (Not so now!)
I didn't therefore have the terror and the joy of being taught to ride a bike - and since I remained single and all my family are long gone, I didn't have the lovely experience you describe here.
A beautiful, almost mythical presentation of your daughter's 'rite of passage' - 'she rides into the stars/upon a brand new cycle' is quite exquisite. And a great idea to give the seasonal setting - to tie down the memory to a specific time and place.
Just magical. Thank you.

I think we can all remember when we learned to ride, it took me only seconds, but then I didn't know how to stop it, and went over the handle bars, and over the neighbour's fence.
