Our other daughter lives in Brisbane, Queensland, 2000 kms away, two and a half hours by plane, but a couple of days by road, although we visit about twice a year, we FaceTime, this is a beautiful tribute, and very important relationally, well done, blessings Roy

Great thought on Unconditional Love. Your granddaughter sounds like a commercial for Orville Redenbacher. I bet she had popcorn for her lunch as well as breakfast and dinner. It's wonderful that you can use Zoom to keep in touch with your granddaughters even though they live pretty far away. Zoom must have been a great blessing to families during COVID. Great comment about grandmothers being great lawyers for their grandchildren. Delightful write, and I know your granddaughters will welcome reading it. I wonder if Eleanor will be such a popcorn freak in her teen years. judi

I'm sure you hate baby sitting!! Lol. What I loved when mine were young enough they needed their granny to watch them, was I could spoil them a little. It's something mums can't really do. But grannies can!! I think popcorn and watermelon would have gone down a treat, not keen on the salami, only on pizza. I enjoyed reading your letter, too. They will love this when they are older. :)) Sandra xx

It is so lovely when the Grandchildren want to phone their Grandparents. I am teaching one of my Grandchildren to sew just now and I bought her a sewing machine and she is having fun with it. Your post is heartwarming and loving Barbara, a pleasure to read, love Dolly x

Of course this warms my grandma's heart, too! How wonderful that your grandkids ask their parents to call you - even if it's because they need a "good lawyer"! Lol. My video calls were all too few and sparse so that's why I had to move! Thanks for this fun post! And hope you have a great time if you fly to babysit!

Thank you for the understanding. I want to move closer but can't leave Steven completely alone.

Great letter. Your grandchildren will definitely be excited to read these. They will not only see you through more mature eyes, but will see themselves as you do now. Loved the line about Grandma's being lawyers. Lol. Great piece. Gretchen

Grandparents are important, Barb. We are lucky. All of our grandchildren live in Maine. The farthest away are about two hours, and the nearest are fifteen or twenty minutes.

They certainly sound like awesome grandchildren.

This is a great lesson for adults as well. I guess I have failed here. I currently have two children who want nothing to do with me. Eeesh.

I enjoyed this.

I think that's normal. Having all boys, I figured out that once they turn teenagers, if they were mad at their mom, it meant they weren't mom's boys. They all were. LOL I used to tease my husband that he didn't have the same relationship I have with the boys because we didn't have daughters. I was a daddy's girl. My wild child, Jeff, when he was a teenage, I'm pretty sure hated me, but once he became a parent, he apologized for everything he did, and he did a lot. We're now very close and on separate summers, his children as teenagers came to visit with us for the summer. The kids and I text each other a minimum of once a week. Often more than that. Once my grandchildren get old enough to have their own phone, we stay in touch through texts. Thank you for the support.

A very loving letter here for your grandchildren who, I'm sure, will be delighted to read it. I thinks it's so clever and unique to be thinking so consistently about them at an older age but also now when they are just starting to develop. As they get older and they give you more material, the advice and lesson will get easier, I think. Take care Debbie

I'd love to have had you as a Grandma, Barbara. In fact, despite our age difference, I'd still be proud to call you "Grandma Barbara."

How adorable is Eleanor! (That's not a question.)

if traffic is reasonable and no work zones, your parents have done a wonderful job Zooming keeping in touch with Grandpa and me. [You need a full stop after "zones". Also a comma after "Zooming".]

Your letters will mean so much to your Grands!

Jay

Thank you for the catches and I have made the corrections. I truly enjoy being a Grandma. It's one of the reasons I retired. We would move closer but our youngest son, Steven, lives in Victoria, Texas, which is only three hours away, and he has absolutely nobody around but us. If he were married or had a significant other, it would be different, but we can't leave him alone. I know I'm a mess. LOL

If you're a mess, Barbara, it's because love is messy and illogical. Keep that connection with your son!
