An enjoyable read. That elusive "prime" is very subtle and not easily seen. I think I missed being in one. The feeling about being in one's prime is probably when one feels fulfilled and satisfied and has the physical and enmotional energy to recognize and acknowledge it- and that can be at any age or stage, regardless of looks or numbers of years.

Terry, I chuckled out loud reading this. I'm with you. Not sure where my prime disappeared to. Your story's a fun little read that picks up speed when you begin talking about yourself. Well done.

I enjoyed your story! I think you are in your prime as a writer. Your work is very good. Keeping the brain working will keep you there. Any way, it is a good story and I got some giggles. It was very entertaining. Sarah

Hi Terry,
I realise you must have been getting the " your work is Terry-fic" line lots of time. But to say the truth, you are a powerful storyteller, poking at your own flaws and weaknesses like it doesn't hurt and you seem to enjoy...NO, you delight in so doing. Your post is educative, funny and a wake-up call for me to ask: hey! what happened to my prim....oh Shooooot!
Thank you
Mario

Terry I have to say that you are now in your prime as a writer. This delightful and funny story proves it!
For myself, I think I blinked and most likely missed my prime.
Best wishes
Mary

I hate to look back over pictures of me when I was in my twenties, thirties and even forties only because I was hyper critical and thought each feature could have been sharper or softer, lighter or darker. It was always something. Now I look at them and think, shit. I was pretty cute. Lol. Prime is a state of mind. Tell enough people you are in your prime now and they'll start to believe you. Lol. Great essay. Gretchen

I love your introduction to this, Terry. And I got three good laughs out of the content, especially the bit about the picky lady apple eater. I hear you on opening jars. Interesting facts about your youth. I can't believe how much Prime went up. Same with my rent--a twelve percent increase. Holy Cow! (To use an 'old' expression.

As I read recently, prime is somewhere between younger than springtime and older than dirt! I enjoyed your humor. Even if I were past my prime, I wouldn't admit to it. Thanks for the laughs. Have a blessed week.

I was going to say this was beginning-to-end laughter, but really it wasn't, and that's what made it so great! Just about when the reader gets into the rhythm of contemplating the message, out comes one of your lines, and IT isn't even a comedic line. It is just unexpected. One such line is: "I don't even like pickles." This came after you kept our attention riveted to how DIFFICULT it was to open a jar of pickles. It could have been mayo, or jelly; it didn't matter. We were thinking about the difficulty, not what was in the jar. And then, WHAM!

Man, study how you achieve your humor. Then replicate it. I know I will.

Jay, I think I see us in another time, and another place. We are sitting at a large old partner's desk. Two Remington typewriters are on the desk.

You and I are pounding out scripts and jokes for Johnny Carson, Dick Van Dyke, Bob Newhart, Mary Tyler Moore.

We are working for, alongside of, or competing with Carl Reiner, Mel Brooks, Woody Allen...Ah, those were the days! Terry

I'd have been honored to work alongside you and the others. I'd be fired in a week, though, because I do NOT work well under pressure. I'm horrible playing group scrabble with everyone's eyes on me, waiting impatiently for me to take my turn. Words freeze in those situations. But I'll take your compliment and run.

Hello Terry. Your photo for this post looks sneakingly like my photo for my current post is there any reason for this? Anyway, you are past your prime when you ask yourself am I past my prime not before and not later? If I asked myself those kinds of questions I would be lost and alone and beside myself with grief.
And for another thing. I lost my hair a long time ago but am still active and doing things that I never dreamed I would.
Jesse
