There is an underlying sadness to this poem about expectations and hopes of seeing good friends again over a broad expanse of time. The most resonating line for me is this: "But in our lonely times we need a friend." How true.

So sorry for the late response. We were traveling and then both my husband and I came down with Covid. We are on the mend but still exhausted.
Thank you Rod for your thoughtful and kind review. Truly, in our lonely times we need a friend and there is an underlying sadness in this poem and yet....I have many friends. They get me through those times.

Your lines and rhymes flowed smoothly. I agree with you.

This is just lovely, especially the way you find a way to tie it up and resolve it at the end. I saw Taylor this year, too, with Jackson Browne: what a fabulous concert, right?! Fire and rain was always one of my very favorites. Thanks for working this one out.
