I love the images that you create in this beautiful poem. You use strong, musical words like droning, melodies, music, and harmonies. I can hear those cicadas and bees. And, your use of assonance and alliteration makes your poem flow in rhythm, adding to the lovely sound effect. It's pretty to read out loud.

Hello sweet Debbie. I hope you are having a fabulous Sunday. Thanks for your lovely review. I was on our deck a few days ago and heard the wondrous sound of loud cicadas and it made me think of this verse. To me, it is one of the defining elements of summertime. So glad you liked it.

I love cicadas, and this is a lovely poem about them. Beautifully worded! I love the rhyme, rhythm, and meter. All so perfect. Great presentation of an enchanted forest full of cicadas. I love hearing them.

I love listening to them too, but can agree with others that they can be LOUD! Haha. Thanks so much, Yvonne. To me, they are part of the essence of summer. :)

Hello Pam. Thanks so much. I don't know if you have the cicadas in NJ, but they are alive and well here in VA. I had gone outside a few days ago and heard them in our trees. It was the essence of summertime to me. :)

Hey Lisa. I had walked out on our back deck and listened to them a few days ago... it was hot and sultry and the pure essence of summertime with their song in the trees. I thought it enchanting, but if there were hordes of them, I am sure the sound would drive me to madness. I appreciate the comments!!

We do not have them here this summer but someone down south was telling that the sound was driving her crazy and she was staying inside for the time being. Hello Mary. Thank you so very much for your lovely review. We live in the Richmond, VA area and I walked out on my deck just to listen to them on one hot, sultry day last week... it inspired the verse. :)

Hello Diane. Thank you for the notice about the extra syllable. I had just glanced right over that little nit. LOL. I appreciate your review.... and yes, I am thinking about planting a swath of tulips and new daffodils. Mine are looking rather tired... and above all, I must have hyacinths... any color will do. :). Do you remember that old saying... if you have two loaves of bread, sell one and buy a hyacinth. I feel that way too.

We are on the same wavelength! I have two areas that are sorely in need of tulips and daffodils. I tend to love daffodils more than tulips... only because the squirrels love to dig up the tulips! :)
