This piece of history demonstrates your extensive research. It's good you decided to research your father's side of the family and found the picture. At least you know that #1966 is in the picture and where he is buried. This is a fitting tribute to a young (not forgotten) World War l veteran.

Thank you for your review and comments. It truly is appreciated. We never explored my dad's family until I found #1966. and found his full military record.

I found this post to be really well written but I was NOT prepared for the 'end of the story' part about #1966 dying in combat. How horribly tragic!
As a stretcher-bearer, I can only imagine the scenes of brutality that one man can do to another. That means can certainly understand his need to get away from time to time. And I'm glad he did! Perhaps he went out and had a blast. I sure hope so.
Men like this are what each of our countries are built on. It's a horrible, nasty, horrific fact, but none of us could enjoy all the things we do today - liberty, freedom, you name it - without these sacrifices. Bless him!
And bless you - for caring enough to 'bring him home' - at least in spirit.

*devastated the Newfoundland Regiment who lost two-hundred and thirty-nine casualties.

Hmm, how many stories like this? Where young died far from home, their bodies never to return and existence reduced to a number. It all has little meaning.
