Beautifully written Jim, it's a marvellous piece of artwork for this picture this post. The thought that immediately comes to mind is, "if these walls could speak, what stories would they tell." But alas we can but speculate, beautifully written in stylish verse and appropriate thinking, pretty close to hexametric stanzas and abba rhyming, well done, blessings, Roy

Echoes of Emptiness
by JLR

Hello, my friend,

I love this poem. There is something very poetic about 'echoes of emptiness'.... well done. It's a fabulous entry for the Pix this poetry club challenge.

Oh I like it and the form really fits the wording. Great rhyme and flow using the descriptions that made us feel the effects of time. Excellent take on the challenge

Barbara, we must gone to a place where these things are true, I try hard to believe we are a better society than I have seen if late.

Those old walls contain so many memories and your imagination ran riot here in your richly worded write about this scene and how empty buildings can echo ghosts of the past, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Dear JLR, I love reading the poems that I get to review because of a challenge from a writers club, because I get to savor contributions like this one.
Are there really old Manor Houses standing empty like the one pictured in the illustration you attached to your intriguing poem?

Suzanna, I would hope if there are..not for long periods.

I always wonder when I see empty houses about the loves and lives that flourished within those old walls. The secrets that are now sealed in the past. You did a great job with this challenge. I haven't tried it yet.

Love all the onomatopoeia that you put into this poem! I especially liked the sound of the assonance in "water blot drop" which not only repeats the 'o' sound but it sounds like the drip of a faucet. You take us beyond the current house to the past lives lived in it and show us a glimmer of hope of restoration for the house. Great entry for the challenge!

A long-uninhabited, once-stately house that once nutured a family, with all its closeness, all its disagreements and struggles--a sad sight indeed.
Your poem is vividly descriptive and moving. I especially like the glimmer of hope at the end.

Yes, old homes whisper of past lives, lost glories. We can romance them, and we can move on. You poem suggests both are possible. I suspect that most relics have histories as mundane as our own--to the people who lived in them.

Interesting use of onomatopoeia in the opening.

Peace, Lee

Lee, thank you, that first step into something that has long been shutter must sound quite similar. Thank you for your review.

I love your poem. An empty mansion brings with it many challenges.
Your rhyming is great. Four quatrains are not easy. You did a good job. Good luck in the contest.
