This haiku, Never a Greater Love, uses a 5-7-5 format and reminds the reader of the redeeming sacrifice that allows the grace of God to save the fallen world. As a poem this is good. As a haiku in a contest, though it isn't stated, the lack of a nature topic may exclude this piece from winning.

A solid thought went into this one. A friend of mine wrote recently about the what ifs of Jesus's outcome if he had entered into life a mere mortal like the rest of us. I've been thinking about that a lot lately. It's the unselfishness of the cross that keeps repeating in my head and heart. Are we capable of this same kind of love. There is no greater commitment or show of love than to sacrifice or offer to stand up or in front of those we love, an excellent 5-7-5 poem, all though I thought the Haiku was more about nature, very well done and best wishes for your contest ****kahpot

Your poem fits the 5-7-5 requirement and is obviously heartfelt and possibly true, but it is not a true haiku as it contains no reference to nature and does not have an 'aha' in the last line. To get a higher rating from me it would have to be expressed in a more poetically original manner.

For sure, there is no greater love - and why did He do this for us. First, it was God's plan - and Jesus obeyed, but being one in three God-head, he knew from beginning of time He'd have to do this. Grace beyond measure.

I think this is a senryu- a 5-7-5 about the human condition rather than the nature, which is a haiku.
