Hi Cathy I enjoyed the letter writing from you and Bill. As a reader however, I got a little bored with it nearer to the end as it felt like there was no depth to what I was reading. In regular books the scenes and characterizations seem to be fuller and more colorful. This particular story line too has been told before and I'm assuming that it is yours and Bill's love story which has charm and old fashion joy. It's hard to know what to write as a critique because of course the story isn't finished. I for one would love to see some kind of action that is fresh and new for you both. I keep up with both of your writings and wish for yal success and continued excitement in your story. I hope that helps cause both of you are exceptional writers. Take care. xoxo Kiwi

The first three chapters are for setting the scene(s) and sharing the strong relationship between Bill and Cathy. We have already discussed and are in the process of writing what will come next. Read your Bio. I went on a similar journey as you with regard to being published. Self-publishing doesn't have the stigma it once did. I thought you did a good job with the letter. Letters in a novel are a good break to insert in moments. Often they are like dialogue where you can suck the reader into the moment. I assume as time goes on the words in his letters will have some powerful moments. So good. keep the anticipation going. Stan Aka. Forestport

Great piece! Such a simpler time and you've highlighted some of the memories that people just don't have anymore. Or at least they don't seem to value them. A coca-cola and a fight on the radio. That was a big night once, and now it would hardly rate as even doing something. Sad to have lost that innocence. And to express love so heartfelt and in loving language. It's a gift. Great job! Your story flows well with great attention to detail. The way you tie in historical events/facts with your story adds to the enjoyment for readers. How easy it would be to say we listened to a fight from 1964 or even not mention it. But the details surrounding it as read in your story make readers feel as if they are there at your table hearing it with you and your mother. Pass the popcorn, please.
The details about the t-shirt bring it alive, too. Readers understand it isn't just a plain ol' shirt. With your details, it has much more significance to the overall story.
Other details, such as those about the teddy bear, give readers much insight to the characters.
The letters from Bill show the intense training and determination of soldiers, but also, a side of his character that keeps him motivated. It is easy for readers to see how much he loves you.
Your collaboration, with Bill, on this novel works well. Both characters are being developed as individuals and as a couple very much in love during the turbulent 60's.
I look forward to reading the next chapter.

I love the letters they send each other and their love comes across as sincere and true. Knowing there are hard times for them ahead is difficult to deal with but as I have said several time, the 60's were a difficult and tumultuous time for many of us. You are doing a wonderful job writing and sharing these letters with up. Many people have gone through with similar separations due to the Military. I know my parents did with the Korean War and I have gone through long deployments with my husband.
