"A Cow Pony", is an extremely well-written and heart-wrenching piece. This talented poet's work was a privilege to both read and review. To me, this is a six, but unfortunately I only have fives left. I look forward to seeing your next post.

Me too, love horses, owned six at one stage. Had a riding school after I came out of intensive care I had to occupy my brain with something and chose those magnificent beasts. This is the best poem I have ever read from your hundreds of poems! It tells a story of youth and ageing and the loneliness of the forgotten pony. Well done my friend XXX K.

Nancy, you did an awesome job in creating this lovely sonnet. Your rhyme choices were good and the presentation and artwork really enhanced it. I enjoyed reading this.

This is very well-written, descriptive, and moving--engendering sympathy. Can you tell me what KIND of sonnet this is? It has 14-15 syllables per line (instead of ten), and I'm not familiar with the type of sonnet that is written in couplets.

It's a Quatorzain sonnet, Janice. I love sonnets and when I get a first line I just go with it. I write many in Heptameter. I guess I'd better put the quatorzain in my notes. Thanks for the review and stars. Nancy:)

This is beautifully written and so very sad. I don't understand how anyone could be so cruel to an animal that was so loving and faithful. My sister was killed after falling from a horse but my mother never blamed the horse and allowed my younger sister to get one. I have always been shy of horses but it is because of their size. Lovely work with this one and thank you for sharing this with us.

Thank you very much for the lovely review and the six, Sasha. Not much a horse can do to keep a rider on it's back if they start to fall off. They do try not to step on you. LOL They are big, but it feels good to hug their neck and they like that. Sorry about your sister. Nancy:)

Very nice descriptions and imagery! Also an interesting take on your meter choice for this sonnet! I enjoyed the "more" it gave us! I feel like a retired cowboy now sitting back on my rocking chair (lol)

That is so sad, Nancy, and I suppose this happens a lot to those poor horses. It happens to other animals once they've lost their uses. I can't understand people who do that to such loyal creatures. Your sonnet is beautifully written, my friend, and as always, it was such a pleasure to read, even though it was sad Big hugs, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

It seems the cowboy might have died. I don't think such a loyal workhorse would be neglected by his owner even if he wasn't working any more.
This reminds us the animals have feelings too. This horse seems so lonely with his memories.
Keep writing

Wow! A very powerful intuitive look at the end of a pony's good years. How sad I feel for the ones left out to pasture alone. And shame on the best and only friend he had for not being here for him now!

You are quite welcome for the review. Your poem brought out feelings of sadness for the pony. And I still think that cowboy should feel responsible to be there in the pony's old age!

Oh, this is too sad! I was always terrified of horses. I don't know why, I guess because they were so big? I don't know. Living on the desert with lots of wide open space, people had horses. I never rode one, but a friend had a pony cart and I would go for rides in that. This is very well done, and I too hate to see a horse abused. We seem to see them on the news here too often as skin and bones. I don't understand why you have a animal if you don't want to take care of it. ={ Rox

People are thoughtless and selfish and just use up everything and toss it out anymore. What's the world coming to? Thanks for the review and stars Rox. Have a great day.
