I find this poem to be clever and entertaining.
The True Grit photo-art is quite appropriate.
I remember back in the 1960's there were over sixty
westerns on tv.
Best wishes for this worthy contest entry.

What a clever poem, Mystery a Poet! You've taken us on a gallop down Western Memory's lane.

Your poem was fun and creative. I enjoyed the ride.

Take care,
Rhonda

Cute poem! You've done a great job of rhyming all those hire and rider names.

Stanza 4, line 1 has one extra letter molded. So does stanza 6, line 2.

Rooster Cogburn is my favorite!

Wow! I remember all those series l with Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Tom Mix, as well Lash La Roux. In the movie, The Christmas Story, the mother of Ralphie remembers the Lone Ranger's nephew's horse being called Victor. Those were great shows with great memories. By the way, congratulations on your win.

As I'm no poet either, I thoroughly enjoyed this.
I didn't know Zorro's horse was called Tornado.
Thanks so much for sharing and good luck in the contest.

This poem, A Horse of a Different Color, seems to have drawn in all the popular horses of our famous cowboy heroes. The inclusion of the last two simply seals the neat horse deal.

This brings back a few memories of Saturday Matinees at the cinema! A great piece of horsing around. Much enjoyed. I hope it does well in the Western poem contest. Good luck!

What a fun read! Brought back some good memories. Your choice for your photo fit perfectly. I especially liked" Outlaws could figure, Roy'd be after em on Trigger, Dale Evans was smooth as silk, When singing atop Buttermilk" Great job!

I love this nostalgic twist on the western theme! Each mention brings an association, and that's a wonderful thing to bring. We are within our cultures mass culture and would not likely be able to not know these names. In a way, it binds us together in common language and knowledge of themes. I'm glad dear Francis made the cut. Lovely touch!

I am of that certain age where there was no mystery regarding to whom you referred...though I am guessing young poets haven't a clue. I like (no-LOVE) your explanation for why Mr. Ed ought to qualify as a western...although for the rest of the night I will be singing: "A horse is a horse, of course, of course..." Not everyone on FS is here to be the next Dickinson or Frost...some of us simple enjoy writing! Great job!--Karenina
