Patty,

This was a sad and disturbing write. My childhood home was run by an alcoholic father, too, though he stuck around through my adolescent years. I'm sorry for what you had to go through, sister. It sounds terrifying. Sending hugs --

1.) Or was he a dirty secret pushed from her mind(?)
Pushing her from his mind,
--> Did you intentionally use the same phrase?

Thanks!

A well written story with a frightening ending too close to the headlines too many times. Drinking can certainly make a person into someone else.

This is a haunting story and alcoholism is a tragic state to be in and anything can happen and you were right to be worried! For a girl of twelve years old this must have been a terrifying situation. Your story is well written and tragic, parents are meant to protect their children not give them nightmares. My father had a quick temper and there was sometimes violence in the house, and these things you never forget. Love Dolly x

This was such a heart touching and very well written story... and then I read your author's note and it was more heart touching than ever. Alcoholism is such a horrible affliction and causes such great suffering to so many. Makes one's heart weep for both the alcoholic and the alcoholics' family who suffer though innocent. Thanks, Patty, for sharing something so real. Hugs, Aggie

thank you so much for your heartfelt words, Aggie. This was a somewhat difficult write, but I did the story from his point of view. I would like to believe that he really wanted to see us,

This would be a great book. Is this going to be a book? I hope he hugs his children and throws the gun out the window.
I'm glad your dad never came back. I'm so sorry for your fear as a child :(

Disturbing to say the least considering some recent news stories I have come across recently in perusing the news. Awful, horrifying, haunting. I don't get it how people think a gun will solve the problems in their lives. Sorry to read that this has its own reality for you...

A chilling scenario and I'm sorry to read that it had some basis of fact in your life. Alcoholism is a dreadful thing to live with. You describe the detail of the bar well here, taking your reader right into the scene. The maudlin tone is just right, too.

Interesting storyline.

Plenty of action to keep readers engaged throughout the telling of this tale.

Sure he will see his kids one last time.

Your story was very touching since I understood what you were saying.... because I read your author's notes and surprised I had shared the same kind of alcoholic father...

Alcoholism is a deadly disease, and has caused much unhappiness in the lives of the ex-wives and deserted children.

It says in the Bible that a man that does not pay for the support of of his children was worse than an infidel -- and he fit the bill 100 percent by being forced to pay child support for his innocent children by court order.

Thank your for sharing it, although it brought back many sad memories and why I never drank.

The only thing more scary than an alcoholic is an alcoholic with a gun. I'm so sorry your father left. I'm sure it had to be very painful and hard to understand.
