A very unusual meter combination that actually worked quite well. You captured a cowboy mentality very well and closed with a clever touch of humor. A very enjoyable and clever read. The abab rhyming was very good. Well done!

This is so cute, Nancy. Love the western theme and
the description of this old cowboy.
Sounds like he won't leave without his horse.
Great rhyme and meter. An entertaining read.

I love the cowboy dialect. You have given the reader a character that the reader can easily relate to, no matter where we live geographically. it is what's inside that binds us.

This is cute, Nancy. Sounds like cowboy talk all right. At least, from what I have heard on radio or t.v. Hahaha. Just a simple little poem, but I like it. Sally

Thank you, Nancy. A wonderful and amusing
piece about a part of history we can all embrace.
I can still remember as a little boy, wanting to be
a cowboy when I grew up. -bill

Yep and I wanted to be a cowgirl and marry Gene Autry when I was five. But later I wanted to be Esther Williams and swim with the fishes. LOL Thanks for the comment and stars Bill. Have a nice day! Nancy

So long as he doesn't have a pig in his poke. But if he did I guess he could have dinner. A cowboy's life was a hard one and his horse was his most valued possession and friend.

Ok Nancy, this is a wee funny review. Don't know much about cowboys other than from the old western films. But somehow I can see where you're coming from with this one. I liked it. All the best. Ulla:)))

Nancy, this is an excellent fun poem to read. Love the cowboy language, thoughts about himself and his horse. Going to the gates empty handed is inevitable but that ain't what matters to God! The rhyme scheme is very good, smooth and helps your poem to flow easily. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Have a great day,,,,,,Jim
