This is a wonderful read and I certainly understand how each of these abandoned vehicles have much story connected to them. But the story is really with the ones who used these vehicles. Without them, these vehicles really have no significance. While I respect your philosophical position about our past, present and future, I do not concur. Our past does not have to determine our present. There are too many people who have a horrible history and yet their present is full of joy. Our present will not create our future. We don't know enough. -Bill

Thanks for reading and for sharing your ideas. Those vehicles are only metaphorical representations of the people who used them. I agree there are many with horrible history and yet have a joy-filled present. I believe that 'joy-filled' present is based on what they learned from the horrible history and an ability to 'think about the good stuff' and not allow our surroundings to steal our joy. The ship doesn't sink unless the water gets inside. Thanks again for reading and for sharing.

A lovely piece. One I enjoyed reading very much. You don't often find quality writing here (sorry to say! - in prose, I mean) and I really appreciated yours.
Favorite lines:
The commonality of the human existence far outweighs the differences and, still, the deafening blare of those playing to our separateness, the things that alienate us one from the other, often drown out the hush and peace of love and tolerance. The tale told in this print reminds of the things that bind us together.
Thanks for sharing!

"New is an Illusion" is a essay that speaks a real truth, Ann. The picture is unfortunately a common one. You are so right in saying that when we see a lot lined with wrecked cars, most of us have various life stories flash before us. This piece is a pleasure to read. Marie
