Good poem with good word flow, and rhyming to tell of the Johnston county war. I love the picture, and it's familiar because I studied that war before writing a poem in my book, Reality Poetry.

I'll try to find it George. Thanks for the review. I am trying to do one about Tom Horns role in Wyoming after the Johnson County War. The Ranchers were still trying to rid their range of the 'Nesters' and gave Tom a "hit list" of who to run out. A sheepherders son was killed, 14 year old Willie Nickells, and Tom was blamed for it and hanged but it was never really proved that he did the killing. Thanks for the review! Nancy

As you have probably guessed, I love poem stories, and you tell them so well. It never fails to amaze me how you manage to achieve perfect meter, as well as perfect rhyme, while imparting all the relevant facts. Good luck in the competition, I'm sure you'll do well.

That's funny Alexis. I read this to my two kids and they looked at each other and then at me and said "How do you do that Mom?" They are amazed that this stuff comes from me.. What can I say? It just does! It's there. I just let it out! Thanks for the review and comment. Hugs. Nancy

You did yourself proud with this entry! It is a wonderfully poetic piece of art with seamless rhyme (and some tricky ones at that) and lilting meter. The added bonus for me was the new piece of history I learned today and I thank you for that. I wish you all the best in the voting and feel blessed to have been able to share this with you.

solid rhyming couplets
good use of enjambment to keep the story flowing from line to line
good alliteration in phrases like roamed the range
and fee was fifty
a new piece of history for me - thanks for sharing :-) Brooke

I know the Lincoln County War was much more famous because of Wyatt Earp and the OK Corral. Thanks for the review Brooke. :<) Nancy

Well, I won't read the prompt and scour the poem for nonos. I liked the poem and of course went and looked up the history of the event. Good story. Nate Champion sounds like a tough dude. Excellent.

I'm not familiar with this gory page from the history books. Your poem pins the full force of the brutality and callous greed to the page. Good luck in the contest. There are some strong entries and yours is among them.

I liked the rhyme scheme ...and the message ...gory that a woman was hanged...Did she deserve it ..? Is this the county you live in?
It's hard to think that a different world grew around us years ago that without writers we would be oblivious...well done
God bless

This is good, Nancy. I enjoy history--especially the Old West. While most folks think of the Lincoln County wars, these struggles happened all over.

I'm not much of a poet, Nancy, but I'd check the final line before the couplet. It seems pretty vague, to me. Just a thought.

Peace, Lee
