Nancy,
If all of history were written in your lilting form, we would know history so much better. This is a great story with strong word choices that depict the ambience of the day. Well done! :0 GracieAnn

Good story. Amazing they were able to build railroad bridges with no machinery.

That is in Grammar Rules on hyphens. Review it.

They'd build a bridge from ridge to ridge and pray that it would hold,
with great success they won the West that's how the story's told. <-- not commas

I enjoyed this very much. I find historical poem most interesting and this one was no exception. Building the railroad was not easy and very dangerous for many. Thanks for sharing this with us again. I missed it the first time around.

Quite brilliant. You have described a man who could have been the brother to my father-in-law. A later generation but cut from the same cloth - at one time a sergeant major in the Coldstream guards in the 1930's and later a contractor running his own painting company. Hard but fair, expecting nothing out his men he could not do himself. Work hard, play hard; family first and give God his due.

Loved your story of the railroad west was won! Great rhyme and rhythm throughout the whole poem! It really could be a great western song - found myself singing the stanzas! Great, great job! Loved it!

Another wonderful insight into the story about how the West was won. Amazing how booze can motivate some workers! We take things like railways for granted these days, but this excellent poem reminds us that it wasn't like that in the olden days. I don't suppose there was much 'health and safety' going on back then!

Thank you so much for this review Alexis. I don't know why this story didn't receive the reviews I usually get but it didn't make All Time Best.Only one I had. LOL Still has a way to go and it is one of my favorites because my ancestors were into the Railroad big time. It had to be hard times for everyone back then. No creature comforts like we have today. Thanks again my friend. Hugs Nancy

Nancy, It's a great story within a poem. I liked the beat. It was as I could read to the 'cluck' of the rail and wheels. I think we have learned something unknown to us before, with this prose within a poetic work. SMILES. Carole

I guess my fans weren't notified with the 6.99 certificate. I received two reviews as a result. That's a waste of money. What a disappointment. Thank you for the review Carole. Hugs.Nancy

Hello Honeycomb, I love stories about the west and how it evolved. Your rhymes are natural and smooth. The story is personal and a wonderful tribute to your family's history. Well done you! xoxo Kiwi

You tell a good story in this poem. You paint a picture with your words of a gang of men working hard laying track all day, then spending their nights drinking and carousing. Throughout it all is the leader of these men, making sure the track is built on time.

That is how the story goes. The TV series "Hell on Wheels "is a good example of the hardships these pioneer people faced to connect the east coast with the west. It airs tonight. Thanks for the review Ward. Enjoy the weekend. Nancy

Loved this, Honeycomb. It's a broadly sketched narrative of one of America's greatest engineering feats. Your persoanl telling of the narrative through the exploits of your relative gives the poem essence and believability. The hardships and successes are beautifully described in verse that flowed sweetly to me as reader. An epic narrative told in rollicking verse.

When I did my family genealogy I was excited about the railroad and newspaper business back in my Great grandparents time. Then the series Hell on Wheels started a few weeks ago it renewed my
interest. Those tent cities were Hell. LOLThanks for the review and the six Mark. Nancy
