So many times in so different ways, we destroy or tamper with things in place to protect or enhance, and it seems we never learn or learn too late.

This can be interpreted in different ways. I'm glad I read your author notes, because I did interpret as I should have. Seeing what we do to destroy the environment in many ways, we are set up for failure. So then, what future would we have, and give to our children? It could be so much worse than it is now, so let's pray that we become smart and start to care. I wish you the best in this contest. . .Sharon

A short poem in 5/7/5 but with some real meaning. 'Beating up the sky' - is this your way of saying we are destroying the ozone layer - this is how I read it. You care for the environment so I may be right. Good Luck in the contest. Regards Dorothy

This poem is true. If we don't stop polluting the sky we won't have any air to breathe and and plants won't be able to use the air and sun to grow. The rain will be too polluted to create plants and so on and so on.
The picture could be spots of blood falling from the sky onto the tree.
