Ah, Henrietta the hen's perspective of an elephant. Very cute indeed.
I read this to my nine year old, Beth and she liked it so I think you hit this one over the fence.
Nice work!

Thank you Douglas, I glad you nine year old liked. I wrote it for children but we don't have many on this site.

Hi Beth
What a delight. This is right up my alley. I love reading poetry like this. The opening line grabbed me instantly:
Miss Hettie Hen is a nosy chick,
I look at the word chick with two meanings!
I am sure this will have had more six star reviews apart from my own.
Love waking up in the morning, do the odd review before my writing begins and hello, see and read something as bright and sunny as this.

Hi Marion,
Thanks so much for the lovely six star review. It's gotten a few others and it was such fun to write. I'm so glad it tickled your fancy.

What a cute story that could also be classified as a children's poem. Love the idea of a gossipy chicken. LOL description of elephant sucking up grain through his nose.
Easy to see how this would alarm little ones.

Great rhyming and cadence. Your main character shared her views based on coming across one elephant quite well. A happy poem as it brought smiles to my face as I tried to imagine what would a chicken do if confronted by an elephant.
Take care,
Ray

A chicken meets an elephant, and immediately passes on the information about her discovery to her friends.
Of course, they can't wait for the elephant to leave, as it is eating all of their food.
Cheers,
DW

This is wonderful and gets my first new six!
>>Her gossip, she
Remove comma.
I lovvve your description of the elephant, whose "nose hung past his knees".
>> He vacuums his food up through his nose
and I'm pretty sure he cheats
LOL! Terrific!

What a fantastic photo - no wonder it inspired you :-)
good use of abcb rhyming
excellent use of enjambment to make your story flow
great humor when the Rooster's alarm got stuck on snooze
good alliteration too :-)
excellent description of the elephant
what a fun perspective that the chickens would not want to have to share their food with him and his vacuum-like eating abilities LOL :-) Brooke

My grandson expressed the same feelings as Miss Hettie Hen when we went to the circus years ago. Your poem was very funny and definitely expresses the thoughts of kids as well as farm animals. Good job.

Five stars for an entertaining account of Miss Hettie Hen's visit to the circus grounds. You kept it humorous all the way, and you reported Hettie's reaction to the elephant with great imagination. Well done.
