A very lovely poem for your friend Irish.
There are many fathers and mothers you could dedicate this poem to today. My heart is heavy for all those who lost their children and loved ones in the school shooting yesterday.Your poem says it all missmerri. Thank you. Nancy

Nancy, I couldn't agree more with what you said... our hearts are breaking for those poor families in Newtown. This tragedy has touched us all. I am grateful for your kind words and lovely review of this poem. Thanks so much.

What a beautiful poem! The blank verse is immaculate, and the sentiment a noble one. And you end on a note of hope that truly stirs the heart.

I've noticed you manage to say SO much in just a few words when writing a review. That's a gift I greatly admire. Plus, I happen to like what you are saying... so far every time! So thank you very much!

I really like reading a poem that is so well written
that it dose not need inner punctuation. The rhythm
and meter is written in so well that it reads like
a song and theme is beautiful. Thank you!

Dear MM,
This stanza alone should win you the contest:
'There is a grief as fathomless as sky
that fills the heart and penetrates the soul.
It is sadness not undone by tears,
but hovers like the clouds before the storm...'
What a fantastic description of grief! Good luck with this gorgeous entry... Bev

A beautiful poem, reflecting the intense sorrow a loss will bring. Thank you for sharing, a beautiful presentation as well.

Very good picture to complement this poem. I remember I think that you wrote about this loss before of your friend. And now most of the story in this blank verse. Best wishes for the contest.

"I pray the rains of healing will begin
and cleanse away the brokenness and grief,
so that his heart may once more fill with song,
and when it does, together we will sing."
i really love this last stanza! mending yourself back to health again is a tricky slope. consistency is required!
thank you for sharing!
happy holidays!
good luck in the contest!

This is a beautiful poem, and unfortunately your prayer can go out to all those who lost their child in the school massacre. There is too much sadness everywhere, and again it is at a time when we should be celebrating the birth of Christ. Your beautiful poem is perfect and such a lovely read. Good luck in the contest! xsx Sandra

You are so right in what you said, Sandra. This is a time when we should be celebrating a joyous event, not weeping for lost innocents. I breaks my heart to think of all those parents who will have the saddest Christmas of their lives this year. I do pray for their comfort and eventual healing. Hugs to you, and Merry Christmas.

Wow - what a powerfully poignant poem. Superb flow and flawless meter and strong emotional overtones. I bet this strikes a chord in Irish's heart.
All stanzas are inspired and laced with finely extended metaphorical imagery. This stanza is my favorite because of the closing note of hope;
I pray the rains of healing will begin
and cleanse away the brokenness and grief,
so that his heart may once more fill with song,
and when it does, together we will sing.
Lovely work. My hairs stood on end!
