I hugged my little friend and said
"Please, stay just as you are today"
while knowing well, the road ahead
would take her innocence away

This is really rather lovely - an Ode to Innocence.
I suppose we loose it as we learn more and more
of the world and its people around us.

Good luck, my friend.

Margaret

Thank you for this kind review, Margaret. I think somehow, some people do hang on to their innocence even into adulthood, and often those people are artists of some sort (like you) but too often life robs us of our childlike view. (I bought your book today..."Promise of Heaven" and can't wait to start reading it.)

You're right - my innocence was lost the hard way - 12 yrs in an abusive marriage, but I got over it and moved on, which in a way made me stronger, although I'm still us trusting. Thank you for buying my book - not my best, but my 1st and then,I improved. Am still editing my 3rd the one I'm really proud of. Margaret

I look forward to reading it. I'm starting "Promise of Heaven" today. Is it a trilogy?

I enjoyed reading your children's poem. It is a wonderful story of love, hope and friendship. It flows and rhymes well and your artwork choice is perfect for your poem.

I wish I had 6 stars left. This is not only an extremely well-written poem, with natural meter and rhyme (obviously, this is not "your first rodeo!), but the images are described beautifully, and the message of the poem is clear and powerful. Thank you for the joy (with a bit of sadness) with which I read it.

Thanks for just reviewing this so sweetly. Wishing for the extra star is frosting on the cake. I loved what you said about the "first rodeo." That was priceless. I'm so glad if this poem gave you a little joy.

I like this very much. A good theme choice. The artwork is well chosen. There are several lines I really enjoyed. 'She watched its graceful airy dance' and 'she chattered with them playfully'. You have painted a sweet picture. Thank you.

Brought a tear to my eye. Everything now has to be an extravaganza - a show - the best things reserved for those who have enough money to pay, leaving the rest of us out. But you have seen what I have seen. . . there is a world of magic just at the tip of our imaginations. I love to watch puppies play, children explore, the world unfold its mysteries. Maybe that comes with being older, we know how precious are the simple things. This is a wonderful poem that arouses great passion in the reader. When a poem draws the reader to such ecstasies, the poet is perfect.

I enjoyed your ode to innocence. The abab quatrains are perfectly formed and the meter is perfect throughout. You have also used enjambement effectively in a number of lines. I also liked the way you interwove story and commentary to get across the theme, albeit with a slightly sad conclusion.
Good luck in the contest. This is bound to be a contender.

I think this ode is the best of what I read so far entered. It reflects how in your thoughts you embrace innocence with pride and respect. I hope you do well in the contest and you can count my vote for you.

What a delightful read this was this morning. The white on the turquoise background is a little hard to read for my old eyes, but I made it through and I loved the gentle tone, the delicate art choice and the wonderful verses of your Ode to Innocence Ode poem entry - I wish you luck in the contest - Dinah

I love that childish innocence and seeing the world through their eyes. You captured this sentiment well and the picture was perfect for your words. Good poetic devices used. I noticed alliteration, consonance and assonance. Strong rhymes in the abab rhyme scheme. I like the rhyme innocence and ambivalence.
I enjoyed it.
Blessings,
Maria C.
