Aw, I loved the surprise at the end.
But the in between parts were heart-wrenching.
And knowing that it was based on a true life incident is even more compelling.

The things I love and hate about flash fiction: The length and the length. A grand set-up. A cinematic ending. Skill and craft. But. Forgive me for being presumptuous, but didn't you wish you had more room for transition?
Some stories can be told in a flash, while others deserve more flesh. I wonder if you don't have a longer version of this story stashed away somewhere. I'm not talking a tome, but maybe a couple of hundred more words between disaster and deliverance. Oops,I overdid the alliteration thing just now, didn't I? Apologies.
You're a fine writer, but sometimes the couch doesn't fit the room. Sorry, I can't help myself.

Nice to see you posting again! This is a very touching story. I especially love the surprise at the ending - how wonderful are Grace's church friends! This made me cry! I'm glad I still have one six left! Very well written. Best to you in the contest!
